Scaly leg mites

Is this scaly leg or just dry skin? How can I treat it?

The skin looks flakey and dry, but it could be very early leg mites, so I would use some vaseline or vegetable/canola oil on the legs and rub it in once a week.

i’ve used some petroleum jelly a few times and it doesn’t seem to be doing much, but i’ll keep at it.
how thick of a layer would you recommend? perhaps i’ll try canola oil as well and see if it helps more.

i should also mention that they’ve been like this a couple of weeks now and haven’t gotten worse, just kind of the same, so i’m hoping that means it’s not mites.

Put a generous amount of any oil, even castor oil or mineral oil, and rub it into the scales. This will last days usually. Nustock cream, a horse product which contains sulfur powder and pine oil, is also a good treatment for leg mites. Here is some reading about leg mites:
