Scary what happened yesterday

My pit is relentless. The dog is just evil to the core. I beat him every day to make him really mean. I feed him live chickens so he gets the taste of blood. I make him wear women's underwear. I consistently discipline him using negative reinforcement to destroy his self worth. I make him go outside to poop.

As a Pitbull lover and raiser of 2 I have to say that I appreciate how you guys have responded to this topic. Its not the dogs fault, but the people that raise them.

Like EVERY dog out there...there are good and bad because of how they were raised and treated. For all dog owners and potential owners I say do your homework and socialize your dogs. Strong breeds need strong (not just physical) owners. I take that back...even small breeds need strong owners sometimes.

If you are a dog owner...you are that dogs pack leader...make sure you act like it! Be responsible and loving!!

I have handled thousands of different dogs in my previous lines of work, and the worst scar I have on my arm is from a seven pound poodle girl. She was scared and in pain and completely hairless from mange, and unknown to everyone else, had cancer inside with adhesions that made some positions very painful to her. She came into a rescue and I was trying to pick her up with a towel over my hands and it slipped and she nailed me. You just don't even know, when you THINK you know, who is going to bite, how hard or why. I have heard that putting up a sign that says "Beware of Dog" leaves you open to legal action because it implies you knew your dog was dangerous. So my sign says "ALL Dogs Bite, Just Some Bite Harder Than Others. Proceed With Caution."

I agree, its not the dog, its the fool owners. Now, that being said, I myself would not own a PitBull. I am inherently afraid of them, and that in and of itself will create a problem. My hubby once found a pit puppy tied to a tree, with no food or water, in August and brougt it home. I nursed that thing back to health, and found it a wonderful home. Trouble is, so many fools get pits and don't know what they are doing, so they destroy the dog. I have a next door neighbor that had a pit bull that broke into my field and ripped the throat out of 3 goats before my husband discovered it. Dog wasn't hungry, dog was mean. Apparently, my livestock was about the 5th time it killed. It once tried to kill a cow. That is the reason I now have a GP. Was it the dogs fault? I doubt it. Was it the fault of the owners, who raised it that way and allowed it to attack and kill repeatedly? Absolutely. If my GP, Labrador or GSD attack someone else's livestock they deserve to be shot. Pits are probably not more dangerous than any other dog, problem is they are a like my GP, fiercely independent, don't like to be bossed, and difficult to train. That is fine in my 150 pound GP that lives in the field, but not a good quality in a "family" dog.

Personally, I don't care what kind of dog anyone gets. But know your dog, know your breed and know how to handle it. What my GP needs, my Lab needs and my GSD need are all very different things. KNOW YOUR BREED!!! (ok, putting soap box away now

As I take a coffee break I'd like to elaborate on my feelings about the Pit issue and threads like this.


As most of us Pit owners and dog lovers in general know, Pits have a bad rap because of the owners, not their genetics. Many other so call safe breeds are much more aggressive and dangerous than a Pit.

Now let's look at this further. The media loves hysteria. It's how they make a living. People, in general, too often live in fear and ignorance rather than faith and facts.

In one day there may be 20 dog attacks across the country, a few of them being Pit attacks. The media hops on the Pit stories, not the poodle ones.

Now the weak-minded masses are brainwashed into believing they are a bad dog. Fear sets in.

The morons that buy dogs because they are "tough" run out and buy these tough Pits. These are the same owners who usually neglect, abuse, and give up these animals.

Now the shelters are over run with these poor dogs, many who are damaged from their training or lack there of.

The Pit reputation continues to spread... The damage continues... Threads like this appear on forums everywhere...

The Smith family walks in a shelter to adopt a dog and pass over the Pits because "what they have heard".

The dogs continue to suffer and are euthanized in mass.

It's a very sad, stupid, and ignorant cycle.


I adopted my Pit mix from a shelter and like to think I may have saved his life. I know in some of the darker times of my life the dog has saved mine.
