Scary what happened yesterday

This was one of MY fears when we lived at our old house. We had a neighbor pitbull that bit several people in the neighborhood. And finally the police step in and long story short...after biting an officer too, had to be shot. Now this happens in another town not too far away, with another pitbull. I LOVE dogs. But pitbulls truely scare me because they are relentless. I hope the family will recover emotionally.

Such a sad story.

We buried 7 cats over one summer because of the neighbor's Rotweiller and Pitbull. I wasn't sad to hear when they died, and my cat population quit dwindling. In this case it was irresponsible pet owners who encouraged them to be vicious to cats. I've met some pits that are very sweet.

I raised Pits for years, they were trained to catch Wild Hogs in the woods, they were sweet and gentle, but Pits have a Clamp and Hold reflex with their jaws, which is how they catch and kill easily.
I have scars on my wrist from my male, it was my fault but I had to use a handle on a hammer to pry his jaws apart.
If they are handled properly they can be great family dogs, but with them and any breed if they are not handled properly they can be vicious. I have seen Dobies, Shepards, Huskies that were pretty vicious.Heck, we had a Chihauhua/terrier mix that bit people and did not let go easily. My Bouvier would take someone down if he thought any of us or our property was being threatened.

As far as cats, my Male Pit and my male cat loved each other.


The 4 Jack Russells I have now will kill a cat if they can catch one.

I raise Am.Bulldogs and have several pits as I have posted before..it is all about how they are trained and handled..socialized..as is with any breed.

My point is that any dog can attack. Pit bulls do not have a locking/clamping mechanism in their jaws. Anatomically, they are built the same as any other breed. Actually, National Geographic studied the bite force of a rottweiler, german shepherd, and pit bull, and the pit bull came in last of the three.

Any dog can be vicious. Any dog can bite. Any dog can kill.

For once I would like to see the media ridicule the owners of the dogs that commit these acts, instead of the breed, because in the end, it is man who is ultimately responsible.

Every breed has the ability to go wrong, not just one. I have seen poodles that are vicious and mastiffs that wanna sit on your lap. I have seen pits that the biggest goofballs on the planet, and mean dobies. Pits get a bad rap IMHO. It's the training, not the dog.
