Scary what happened yesterday

And I still think this is one of the funniest dang dog stories ever! It's like Mac was doing his Christmas shopping! "Ooooo... I'd like one of these, and one of these, and Dad would like one of these, and maybe some chocolates for Mom..." I can just pictures the doggie joyousnous at his great find.

The pits are always my favorites at the dog park. They are happy, sociable, friendly dogs. Just big goofy dogs. They were THE most tolerant of my eldest when she was just a puppy. Loved 'em!

Yeah, well here's to hoping no other dogs give me a more memorable story. The next morning it was VERY funny, but a neighbor banging on our door at 2 am was not.

I heard the same thing about posting a Beware of Dog sign. That is signifying that you KNOW your dog is a biter. The person that told me this said even if you think your dog can be aggressive, you can always say, "he never bit anyone before" and possibly get off the first time. Then the next person who said you were nuts NOT to have a sign said the opposite. . .

But, there aren't bad dogs, only bad people. I have been around pits for the past 20 years and only 1 scared me. My DD had one that thought he was a lap dog, and was shot because he wouldn't fight (not by us, was given away by her ex, and we didn't know or would have stepped in, we still grieve over Whitey.) I have a little Shih Tzu that thinks he is a big bad dog, and will bite in a heartbeat if he isn't happy with someone. GS scared me when I was little, was chased by one with pups and that was a scary deal, but I think they are the most beautiful dogs and such smart ones. Poodles actually are classed as one of the worst biters. And, personally I think those little teeth can inflict a lot more pain than the big ones. . .but that just might be a crazy theory of mine, and I am known to have some!!

When I was living out in west texas with five small children, we had pits. Never a problem, but like so many say, its all in the raising and training.
I think its SO sad when certain people use them as a status symbol and they arent properly socialized.

I just want to interject something here... If I had a neighbor that let that many cats run around on my property, my dog would catch and kill them too, as he was trained to do with any random small animal tresspassing. My dog will also take down any human I point to and give the command. His training also will have him corner and subdue any trespassers. He is in fact not an evil dog, he is a working dog. He is a pet, and he is my buddy.

He will even take me down if he thinks I am playing with one of my kids too roughly; and I am the alpha. Pits and Pit Mixes are some of the most loyal and trainable dogs out there. 10 years ago it was dobermans and rotties... this decade it's Pitts. Folks need to educate themselves before they label a breed. I'd take a Pitt over a rottie any day...... and I love rotties as well.

The pic above is Beast the wonder mutt with his baby sleeping peacefully together.

I think the main reason people are scared of pitbulls, is once a pitbull attacks it is very hard to stop. At least a little dog, you can kick it away, but a pitbull is stuck on you like glue. Also some people get pitbulls for the visciousness and that is very scary.

But pits aren't viscous by nature so I don't get that argument either.

but they can be if put in the hands of someone who trains them to be, or abuses them.

that I do agree with. But that is true of any breed. Some of the worst livestock killers are large breed dogs with a high level of intelligence. Without proper training they invent their own sport and are often shot for it.

I think people should be forced to go to puppy school with thier dogs. All dogs can bite not all will. My tiny undersized bichon was a brute when she was younger growling and snapping at the air, the vet was worried that if the behavoir didn't stop she wouldn't make a good family pet. Now she summits when needed and has never posed a threat since I was trained on handling her properly . I saw her brother this chrictmas and he was one angry dog! I trust my dog around my kids though my youngest is 5 now and could easily get her off. A med-large dog should never be aloud alone with a kid, never off a leash and should have a safe inclosed yard. if a dog does attack unprovoked and the owners could have provented the attack then the owner should be force to stand trial for thier part in the attack.
