School districts, layoffs and other things of interest....

Are you serious? I can find misinformation on the web to support any theory, in court that is called hear say unless you actually have the documents. Most independent research stops when the seeker finds enough evidence to support the original desirable outcome.

It also doesn't mean we were not founded on religious basis either but the lawmakers then were REPRESENTING for the most part Christian majorities.

I am not really sure why the ACLU and others would spend time disproving that it was not founded on Biblical foundation as your and my rights apply to all religions. It really does not matter either way really religions are like wars the stronger ones survive. Let people decide for themselves what religion they follow.
The newest tactic in Government is defunding politically sensitive issues which I am for by the way as there is way too much involvement by the feds like education why are they in it anyhow it is a state issue.

I am sorry I was just saying that if these men made quotes one way and later made a quotes that stated something else. It just meant that they grew and changed the way they saw things. I do believe that religion played some role in their choices why because it was a big part of who these men where. Believe it or not the whole history on how our country came to be is not even being taught anymore. It is sad the things being cut from the history of our country. Am I a christian NO do I believe in God yes I do am I good person, I believe so why. I help the people I can I treat people with respect and I try hard to understand their beliefs and respect that person opinions. Even if I do not agree. I will also admit when someone shows me something that shows my facts wrong. I am just saying that chickened posted quotes that showed a different point and aqua eyes did not even attempt to say yes you could be right. I agree with both and disagree with both neither will admit that they are wrong in any way. The are both right and both wrong. I just think that because a person says one thing they can and do change their minds later in life as they learn more about life. I know I have changed since I was young. I am just going to shut up now.

You have no need of an apology, you are just as entitled to say what you want.

People do change, it is very interesting to hear how the Gospel was taken to the Scandinavian regions. In a condensed version the Vikings captured English women or booty(like that word) and unexpectantly the Vikings by way of English women were introduced to the Gospel without spears and clubs.

Not ALL the views and beliefs thank goodness, else I'd have been executed some time back... give a quick google to the Maryland Toleration Act. It scares the crap out of me to think that something that sick was ever written into law anywhere in this country. Iran, yes, I could see them with something like this... wouldn't surprise me in the least. One reason we send troops over there, to stop the blatant human rights abuse in the name of religion. But to know that this part of OUR history, even if only for a short time until the Constitution was drawn up and ALL people were protected from zealots bent on slaughtering (beating, jailing, fining, burning) anyone not of their faith, well that just makes me rather ill. Also makes us look rather hypocritical when we march into Iran/etc and demand that they don't do it... but then we look rather silly to quite a lot of the world for quite a lot of reasons... including our education system.

You know today over on FB (we were discussing tax rates) I found it very interesting that one friend said "I am also in favor of a Texas state income tax so that ALL children receive a good education, not just those who can afford private schools." ... this woman is a PUBLIC school teacher. If even she has no faith in the public school system, than how bad has it gotten?

Hey I'm just like most people. I'll believe what I want to believe. It only makes sense that the Christians amongst our founders would try to incorporate as much of their belief system as possible into the framework. Fortunately there isn't much. Probably one of the reasons it took them so long to write it.

As for public schools. The system has a lot of flaws just like everything in life. Defunding it is not the answer though. It has been shown that the schools in financially affluent areas do better than those in poor areas. I'm not sure what the solution is there, but the facts indicate that children from more affluent areas tend to do better in school. Not because their brains are any better either. Teachers don't have any control over what a child does after hours. With all the defunding, more and more after school activities are being cut. Parks and recreation facilities are being closed. More people that can't pay for entertainment have less and less to do other than hang out on the streets and find something to do. Not a good thing.

Right now as a society we seem to be sliding towards defunding our population as well as the schools.

I agree defunding is a method used on both sides to advert a political logjam. I t forces abuse, misuse and corruption out and is very effective at that to say the least. You want to see waste google sometime what the Industrial Military Complex encompasses and the money it gobbles up and just how big it really is.

Defunding isn't to prevent political logjams; it is more often a tool to gut programs a particular group disagrees with. It has little to do with abuse within the program, misuse or corruption. It is a political tool used for political purposes.

It's such a shame, and so short-sighted. Well-funded successful school districts are a major demand for young couples shopping for a home to buy. When demand to live in a district increases, housing values in that district will increase. Schools should be seen as an area of investment.

Somewhat related, what frightens me about what I'm reading here about school districts in Texas is how much influence the schools in that state have on textbook purchases. What happens in Texas affects everyone.
