i think the egg was first. i think a different animal laid the egg, which had a deformation in it which turned into a chicken-thats my evolution theory

i think the chicken was first. God put chickens on earth, so they could lay eggs to create other chickens, and to feed the other creatures on earth-thats my creation theory

Well some Jungle fowl were bred together in a village & by selectively breeding for the traits the villagers desired, a chicken was eventually hatched, no? Therefore the chicken came first because it was hatched out of a jungle fowl egg, not a chicken egg.

This probably not the right question but....

If God put chickens on the earth (in their current chickeny form) where did he get the first chicken from, or if he somehow materialised it why did he take the trouble of giving them flying bird characteristics (one ovary, no bladder, hollow bones, unusual lungs, laying eggs) and then make them not particularly great flyers. It's seems an awful lot of trouble to go to.

I'm not looking for a fight, just interested to see what the reasoning behind making chickens into birds was, when they would have been better as mammals probably.

The egg came first! When the question was asked "What came first the chicken or the egg?" nobody said it was a chicken egg.Everybody just assumed. Long befor chickens their was other creatures that laid eggs. Dinosaurs,alligators,and all kinds of sea life for example.

2) Does a chicken poop in the woods?
3) If a chicken falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
4) Is the chicken Polish?
5) Does a chicken have lips?
6) There are 5 chickens-You take 3 away, How many do you have?

If you are a scientist:

The bird that laid the egg was not a chicken but something close. Quail, grouse and doves are related to chickens. So are pheasants. How much breeding would it take to get a chicken out of a grouse with a weight problem?
