How often should I feed my flock scratch for good nutrition?
I'm giving it to them everyday and I'm beginning to think that's too much.
Maybe they should spend more time eating their good organic food.
Is giving them too much scratch like is eating too much chocolate?

I've read elsewhere in this forum that scratch doesn't really provide a lot of the nutritional value for chickens, especially protein. You might want to do some searches on this.

Well Betsy, for one thing, you can't have "too much chocolate". That's a misnomer.

But as for scratch, do consider it a treat, not part of a nutritive diet.

Buff's right; it's just a treat. I've found if I give too much, they'll stand and wait for the scratch and not eat as much of the good stuff. So, I only give a tiny bit now, and only in cold weather. Never in warm.

You noticed that I had the discipline to stay away from commenting on the "chocolate" thing, didn't you? Buff actually beat me to it.

(As I sit here chewing on a large double-chunk chocolate-chip cookie).
