I'm about ready to rehome Ellie and Georgie. They've bloodied Isaac for the third or fourth time in a month and almost removed his comb from his head again. He's separated yet again. Cannibal witches!

Doesn't matter if he isn't bleeding or scabby-they'll start him bleeding. I've rehomed hens for the same thing before and I'm SICK of it!

I'm beginning to identify with that dog in the Traveler's Insurance Co. TV ad. You know the one? Worry! Worry! Worry!! I'd feel a whole heck of a lot better if Knox would just check in and let us know that he's alright.

Cyn, so sorry to hear of all of the troubles you're having with your hatch and your waning hen. May she go quickly and not suffer. Poor little girl.

Im still around and sorry for the trouble so many are having.

It snowed here heavy but it didn't stay on the ground. It did get windy the other day and blew the panel of fencing over I had leaned back up. I can't reattach it without help.

I've let the Dels out into the yard and hope they don't hop the fence or something else hop in.

Gracie is dead. She just finally refused to eat at all. Nothing I could do. No idea why. We've been battling this for two months with her. She became ashen looking at the end and we syringed water in her mouth to try to keep her hydrated, plus tried every food we could think of. She was wormed, had supplements and vitamins, extra protein, every blessed thing we could do for her. She just decided to die. Obviously, it was something contained to just her and her alone. I don't think Tom wants to open her up and even look at her liver. I hate it. She was so typey and gorgeous. It was like her starting to lay triggered some underlying problem and she just went downhill from there. She only laid a few eggs, just for two weeks and quit, then this battle began. I bet she didn't even weigh 4 lbs. I'm so upset. Hope, on the other hand, is doing very well-she's humongous and gorgeous and lays every single day. Poor old Suede is outliving every hen I give him, the tough old bird.

Dottie's baby hatched! I have to check June's two eggs and see if they're even alive, but I think this hatch is over. I've set 24 more eggs in the other, less used, Hova already.

Cynthia, sorry about Gracie. I guess alot of times you just never know why they die. You also just reminded me about rotating the eggs outside to inside. I really do think that makes hatches better. Even with a fan and all that.

Cetawin, those are amazing videos! I gotta hand it to normal people that get these pics, even better than what the news people get. They really show how big and horrendous they really are.

Have they gotten more frequent these past years?

Ok, first, I am going to apologize that you may see this posting more than once.

My mother-in-law is in the hospital. She has been for a few days. She is REALLY sick. Today I found out what is all going on, and they are still doing more tests. She has blood clots in her lungs, with pnuemonia, and her heart is only outputting 14% (not sure of terminology) and they did a CT scan of her chest and found a HUGE (their words) mass in the center of her chest that is pushing on her lungs and heart. They are still running tests to find out if the mass has spread to other parts of her body, and are taking surgery. So we will be making a trip to Texas tomorrow morning as soon as I can rent the car.

What this means is that my chicken stuff is on hold. I have my parents coming over to take care of everything, and there is a lot of that stuff going on, with eggs in the bator and chicks in the brooder, but I wanted everyone to know that I plan on getting my swap eggs out on time, and meeting up to get eggs, and swap pea chicks and pick up chicks.....But if I can't do it on time, I will make it right.

Broodies, broodies, broodies.......
I think I have an Icelandic wanna-be-broody. I already have 3 Wheatie mamas. The chicks are all Olive Eggers, and all but one are sired by my Lavender Ameraucana. ENOUGH now ! No more broodies! My broody buster was successful in breaking 2 more Wheaties (for the moment anyway).

Icelandic, on the nest all day today. Hoping I am wrong......
