I do live in Ga, just one of the higher elevations. It's so cold out there, but guess what? After Charlotte starting back laying a couple days ago, another blue egg layer started as well as our little princess, Shadow! Nugget had started back, then went broody, but now I have three others as consolation for that.

Nugget was doing her daily meal/poop session, inside the coop, of course since it's very snowy. Tom said Shadow approached her, Nugget expanded herself twice over, gave the broody growl/cluck in warning, and all that did was fan the flames-Shadow jumped Nugget and was pounding her in the head and Tom had to push her off poor Nuggs. Keep in mind, Shadow may weigh a pound and Nugget is the largest hen in her coop, maybe 8-9 lbs or so. Shadow knows little fear in spite of her diminutive size, but Reba, who is 2nd in command in that small group, started chasing Shadow all over the coop, fussing her out for her indiscretion with broody Nugget.

Jo looks great! Can't wait to see her when she isn't a wooly-bear!

Evening all.....just got home from a funeral and I'm trying to catch up. One of Jennifer's great-aunts passed away last week and the funeral was today.

LH - I am soooo sorry to hear the news about your sister. Will continue praying. I believe in God for the impossible and I know that He will hear our prayers on your sister's behalf.

Weather here is FRIGID (high was 29F with 30mph winds) but we dodged the "white stuff" Cyn got. Had flurries and a light dusting yesterday, but nothing more. Supposed to be 10F tonight....yikes!!

On a chicken note, I got my first 2 eggs today from the 2 Columbian Rock girls that Beth picked up for me! Crazy things....laid their first eggs on the coldest day of the yr! I'm gonna let them get a little size to them, then the 'bator comes back on!!!

All the rest of you crazy SDWD folks, stay warm and stay well. I'm off to start the fireplace and get a glass of wine.

I got 6 nice big eggs today. My good ol Stew #2 was in the nestbox at the end of the day which is strange. Hopefully she just was working on a late egg. She is definitely not broody......she always lays her egg in that box and there was not a single egg in it so I think she was just thinking about it

Its brrrrrrcold here. It was 18 degrees at 5:30 and wind chill has it down in the single digits, I think. Brrrrrr cold. All the chickens are locked up tight. I snuck out to this new feed store this evening. Or rather, not necessarily new but I didn't know about it. It sells 22% layer for $11.89 for 50lbs. I consider that a steal. I was paying $11.50 for 16% or $13.50 for 20%. The pellets are small and not very dusty at all. I plan on mixing them with scratch to drop my protein to about 16-18%. I am poor and that is the cheapest way of doing it, since I get scratch for $7.40 a bag. Plus this layer feed has animal proteins instead of just grains.

Chickens are all still kicking. Will be hauling water out in the morning and throwing out a few tons of scratch LOL. that is my solution on these cold days......here have some more scratch....

Worked from home today. Guess I'll have to haul my butt back to the office tomorrow. Sigh. It was fun while it lasted!

OMGosh, that little Shadow sounds like a force to be reckoned with! Messin' with a broody? Crazzzzy girl! Glad to hear Nugget is sitting tight. Good girl, Nugget!

YAY for the Canadian Columbian Rocks, Scott! Get that bator heating up .... won't be long!

Happy to report ... NO frozen water today. All the heated waterers are working well!

Today was yogurt day. 16 paper plates of Yogurt mixed with feed, sprinkled with Cayenne Pepper, Cinnamon, Turmeric, and chopped cranberries were served for a brunch treat. They eat this up quickly.

One of the Barred Rock girls has been checking out the nest for a few days now. I am hoping she will lay soon. Been getting one egg a day from pen #2. Those New Hampshires are sure pretty.

Excellent work Cyn!

I have an idea......send all that fleece to Ms Cynthia and she can make something exciting and glorious out of it! Sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm thinking there is SURELY some "manly" looking fleece in that "stash" that would make me a GREAT throw for sitting in my chair....got any camo in there Kathy??

Cyn....think you can "dress me up" and make me look good?

In all seriousness, Cyn, it is very pretty. If your hands are willing I think I need to get Jenn to talk to you about a quilt for our bed.

Thank you Scott...keep the prayers going my friend, she needs all of them she can get.

I am very blessed to have her as part of my family, even when she is pitching a Diva fit she is still a welcomed family member.

Cyn, that is beautiful and those colors are stunning! I am always floored by the beautiful quilts you make.
