If I remember, I'll take my camera tomorrow and get pics for you of Cogburn and Baby, if she's out there. She isn't out every day we go, but is most days. Mean little sucker, that one. Bet she'll fly at the camera like Greta Garbo avoiding the press.

I'm off to bed to read. Am re-reading (for the 50th time) Death in the Long Grass by Peter Hathaway Capstick that was published in 1977, the month my older son was born. Need to rest before the big day tomorrow.

Nella what a cute niece! I bet she looooves the chooks! Cyn, come to realize... I've never heard you talking of bantams OR silkies. Oh I love banties... hopefully the feed store will have a few!

I have a serious problem. Well, that's another story... let me re-phrase that. Lily has a serious problem..

Does anyone know how to stop a chicken from jumping onto their waterer and pooping in it 24/7?? Arg! It's a plastic one with the red bottom with I much prefer over a hanging one. It's on two bricks. She jumps up, poops, then jumps down knocking it off, spilling all the water out and making me wash the whole thing off to avoid disease. Ugh! Pleeeeeeease?!?!!?/

I love this pic and this would be me and Frenchy if DW would allow and my DD's DC weren't in the house.

I forgot to mention my hens from Ideal are the worst and they've got a light on their side of the coop. My WNY dels are the best I've got. Maybe they're just content with Nick. I expect it's the roos got them upset but still two to four eggs from 12 hens, that ain't right.

Haven't mentioned my broody frizzle here lately....never have given her any eggs. She has 2 wooden eggs but doesn't keep them very warm. She is in the bottom portion of my newest double brooder, in the carport. Looked at her good tonight and she looks a bit pale and "tired" looking. Think I might have to break her.....don't need another broody anyways and she doesn't seem like she would be any good at it or raising babies.....plus I dont think she is strong enough for this cold weather sitting. Sigh. Poor thing. She has only been for sure broody for a week or so but last time I checked the eggs when I was going to give her some, they just weren't that warm.

I scrambled up a ton of eggs tonight and will throw out a bunch tomorrow and give her a nice dose of them. Poor little bald thing. Stupid roosters.

Had 2 buyers back out on me for today. 1 had an outbreak of something and is under "quarantine" so to speak......the other didn't realize I was quite far away. So looks like I will have to relist the girls!

Nella, do you think her not bein able to keep the eggs very warm has something to do with the frizzle feathering?

I got my first frizzle today, and did notice they're very "airy" instead of the normal tight feathering most other chickens have.

I sold 4 of my layer hens last night, and the production red Roo!

which paid for this WCB Polish pair (3yo), Roo is frizzled. Very funky lookin! They are in quarantine, and aside from possibly scaly leg mites

are healthy... The scales on thier feet are mostly lifted up and full of dirt. They've gone into the carport brooder, since it'll be dismantled and completely cleaned out once they go into general population anyways. I put some WD40 on thier legs before they got put in the brooder, is there any better way to treat this problem? I'm going to Ivomec them tomorrow, I've got pour on leftover from cattle worming a few months ago. Oh, and Roos spurs will be coming off after his legs heal....they're about 3" long

(They're in with 3 others I got yesterday, 1 partridge rock hatchery pullet, 2 mutts)

Well I set 12 Partridge Cochins, 2 BOs, 1 EE, and 6 Turkies. The Cochins and Turkies were shipped to me. The EE and the BOs were mine. So far I got 5 Cochins, 1 EE, and 3 Turkies. I kinda thought the BOs might have gotten too cold outside. So for the circumstances I think i've done well.
