Oooh hoo hoo Suzanne! You have NO idea of what you're letting yourself in for!!
gig.gif
I wouldn't put it past Tim to do just such a deed if you're even remotely within striking distance! *insert evil snicker here* Unfortunately, I'm clear on the other side of the country.
sad.png
Otherwise, I'd say: Tim! No need to sneak them in! Just come on in, make yourself at home, and how about coffee and fresh apple pie???
gig.gif

Speaking of which....Tim!!! How the heck did I miss that offer??? Dang guy! Keep those girls laying until next spring please! I'd love to place some of those in the incubator. Or with any luck, maybe by that time, I'll have a couple of broodies on my hands. I swear three or four of the young ladies out there are contemplating it!

I didn't pick up the yesterday's eggs last night when I put them to bed. There were 10 in all, and I just put them all into one nest box. Insufficient pocket space and I had forgotten to grab the egg basket on my way out to the coop you see.

Well, this morning, when I went to let everyone out and set up the boys for the day, I discovered sweet little Evie sitting on all ten eggs!!
lol.png
Poor little dear! She was certainly giving it the old college try there! She didn't do too badly either, considering that she just started laying about 2 weeks ago, or so. All but two of the eggs were safely tucked up under her and I'd venture to say that she had been sitting on them since first light.
lol.png

She kind of has the idea. Now she just has to learn that one must stay on the nest all day and all night with only a few minutes break here and there. She sat on them up until about 10:00 AM, but then I guess all the clucking and calling back and forth by the flock, finally lured her off of the nest.

So who knows?
hu.gif
Maybe next spring she'll be ready to be a mommy. I do hope so! She's so sweet as it is, and I can just imagine what a great little momma she would be!
love.gif
If she does it again tomorrow morning, I'm gonna get a picture of her. It's just too funny/sweet not to share!

Ah, those broodies! My chicks are 5 weeks old and Harriet is still fussing and giving them first dibs at the food- I have no idea when I should separate them- when do you guys separate?

Amy, we have GOT to get you some Dellies. I am sure ANY of us would accommodate you if you want eggs! You, too Suzanne!

Kathy, have you recovered from your birthday? My DH decided to celebrate your birthday by buying me a nice new GOOD quality vacuum cleaner. Something to pick up all the fur and hair from 5 cats, two dogs, my locks and the stray chicken feathers and horse hair that follow me in a cloud wherever I go.
I now have no more excuses. . . . . .

Oh MY! Wasn't THAT a thoughtful gift??

I mean, every woman appreciates a good piece of household equipment that knows how to do its job......but what is it with men that they think it's just the thing to make us swoon and drop gratefully straight into their arms, all appreciative and happy???!!!??? Huh?? Huh?? WHAT!?!?!?!
hu.gif
Ya really want to find the way to my heart? Give me a day of peace and quiet all to myself! I love ya honey, but every now and then, a girl just wants a little spa time!
gig.gif

Beth, I'm going to do everything I can to A) Convince the DH that these are exactly what we need in the flock and B) To create the facilities I would need in bringing more beautiful little souls into this flock. With any luck, by May 2011, I might actually be ready! But make no mistake, I definitely want DELLIES!!

Hey now, I had my birthday last week (my last birthday ever, I am staying 29 for the rest of my life) and my awesome boyfriend gave me a home depot giftcard and a bottle of this awesome margarita only available up where he lives. He obviously wins at life. He said that now I could get a nice set of sawhorses (i use buckets now, lol) and a new sawblade
smile.png
And he was sad when I said I was selling part of my cochin flock. "The furry footed chickens are my favorites" he said. LOL.

First time he buys me a vacuum, I will take the attachments off and beat him upside the head with them. Pretty sure I will get a Home Depot giftcard from now on. I consider that a win. Can't build coops with flowers.

This reminds of the one year for Christmas when I needed all new appliances .... everything was breaking down at the same time. I went Christmas shopping with excitement. I came home and wrapped gifts. As usual, everyone wanted to open an early gift. I thought about it, and agreed. The gift they could open early would be the one I would pick for each one.
DH got a new coffee pot
DS #1 got a toaster
DS #2 got a blender
DS #3 got an electric can opener
They all remember this Christmas, and I never again got an appliance as a gift.

Thanks, I got the idea from here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=270088 but I used chicken wire instead of hardware cloth. Hardware cloth was way more than I could spend and I always lock up the gang at night anyway. Great news, a friend of my DH's had gotten a ton of plastic from a greenhouse and gave us a bunch of it, so I can completely cover the run this winter

My parents still do gift giving like that Kathy...for Birthdays, Anniversary, Christmas etc etc...

Dad buys mom a lawnmower, power tool, fishing rod etc....Mom buys dad a new vacuum, a new appliance, new linens etc etc...and they just trade gifts after the exchange,
gig.gif
I remember the christmas that started it. We (sister and I) bought my mother a pair of fuzzy slippers, nightgown and robe and my Dad a wrench set but we put the gift tags on the wrong packages. Dad was looking at the package like it had a snake in it...and Mom said "Here take my wrench set the girls bought and give me that one". And there they decided they liked that method and they just do it all the time now.

I am the ultimate romantic myself...I look at DH and say "hey what do you want for your birthday?" LOL And when he asks me what I want for mine I say "To forget the day is here and not be annoyed". LMAO

Okay picture time...I took pics before bedtime last evening.

Aw, the babies look so good. Spike sure does think he's hot stuff. Unless they were plucked at the swap I would guess it was the bantam cochin boys. I have a few who are such little boogers. Wish they would get eaten by the hawk instead of the nice birds (mean yet true, sigh).

Pretty sure all my remaining d'uccle girls are going to Ms Amy to make really cute EEs. Assuming they don't get eaten by the hawk in the meantime. Didn't lose anything else yesterday.......we'll see what we have this evening. I may try to rig up a temporary day pen for them just to keep them safe and sound. Yesterday was the worst day ever, one thing after another went wrong ALL DAY LONG. I finally just went inside and laid on the couch with the covers over my head and took a nap.

I can't stand a rooster who won't give his girls treats. *smack* I have very high rooster standards LOL. My little jerkwad bantam cochin mottled rooster is a little jerk but you should see him dance and cluck and call girls when he has treats. Heck, he even makes me want to go over to see what he has, ha ha ha.

My big stupid blue cochin rooster is decent...........except yesterday i was outside checking on everyone.......a few hours after the hawk attack. he was INSIDE the coop all by himself, dustbathing in the shavings.....one of the birds outside did a hawk call and he added his own hawk call, but didn't even bother getting his lazy fat tush up out of the shavings to go see what was wrong.

His son is looking better every day. Definitely better type.....and he was very polite to a girl he bred this morning....teeny tiny bantam girl. His upgrade may stick after all.......
