Here is my twin to Cyn's baby.

He is some sort of bantam cochin cross. Young and has very poor type so who knows who the parents are....all my colors are currently mixed. Probably a mille fleur or mottled rooster (although my mottled has fantastic type so probably not him)....possibly a gold laced rooster but he was so low on the totem pole its just not likely. I have all colors of hens so no idea. Probably calico/mille type hen or maybe barred?

Cyn, sorry to hear about your girl. At least it was not long and drawn out.....

Janelle, I am very glad Tux didn't have a long drawn-out illness, too. I took Sunny's sudden attack on her as a sign that she would probably be gone this morning. No one ever bullied Tux, nobody! She was one of the senior ladies, almost four years old.

Your boy is much darker in the hackles than Chipper, but they are very similar!

On a totally random sidenote, I got one of those footlong coneys from Sonic for dinner last night. Ate about a third of it? Maybe. And brought the rest out to the "girls".

They have gotten smart....they hear me fiddling with the gate latch and by the time I get through the gate this is what I have to battle through.

I had chickens jumping at the box as I walked out there. I set it down and it was like wolves descending.

Approximately 40 seconds later, there was only a smear of chili sauce on the side of the box.

On a sidenote, I upgraded the son of my big blue rooster to the big yard last week to help combat the hawk attacks. He has red leakage in his hackle feathers so is not breeder quality by far..........but is doing a great job helping out with rooster duties. And has better type than his dad (his mom is typier than dad was).

You can see big blue cochin rooster in the top facing left.....and his son next to him facing right.

What a great job they did watching out for the girls while they had a snack. I have decided to keep little blue to go with big blue.......hoping they can pair up and do a good job together.

And yes, I have a few extremely bald hens. They are covered in Pinfeathers! Finally! It has taken almost a year for that black hen to start growing some feathers back.......

Amy, I have had your baby on my mind all morning. I have NO idea why a chicken would upchuck- unless she ate something poisonous? How are things this morning?

Nellabean- those are quite the pictures- sometimes it tears me up when mine all gather around or race to the door of the run when they see me coming- they are always SO confident that I have something good for them-

Cynthia, is Sunny head hen now?

Well, where to begin?

Cyn I am sorry for your loss. Seems no matter how we tell ourselves we will not get attached we do. Don't know how I let that weasel Nick get into my heart. Yesterday he was standing at the back door crowing like he wanted in. He's top roo out of three and when he goes I'll cry like a baby I know.

Kathy, your is the second postinga about DH and DS drama, don't sweat it. It's a man thing I know. DS was only home for a month and we butted heads. We made up and things are fine. Sometimes we Dad's dont' know when not to interfere. We're not supposed to feel like mom's but sometimes we care more.

Joletabey you gotta stop. Now your telling me to have a fireplace installed. WE DON'T HAVE A MANTEL! Not that I don't want one nor DW but we can't afford to have one put in. We'll just have the picture hung over the sofa with the rest.

Chicks, Nella, and Serrin, Hey to you all. Just want you to know I know your here.

Talked to a woman at the fair about sheep. She says I'd have enough room for two. Gotta have two she says. Then she mentioned the B word. BUILD! I can't build! I'd need two building one for summer and one for winter. Not big ones mind you, anyhow then there is hay storage and delivery. I'd have to have someone reliable to load it into place. My SIL is here but that's not a permanent gig. I could hire someone but I'd need someone who shows when they say they will. Lord knows that harder than you'd think. Even in this economy. She did tell me she hires someone to shear her sheep for $15 each. She spins so she uses the yarn. I could learn but it's not very manly. Maybe my DD would learn. I like to keep busy so anything I can do watching the tellie is good. I hate to waste time. Writing to you is not wasting time if it gives you a lift.

So here's your lift. isn't she beautiful. Have a nice day. Love you all Rancher

Tim, she is gorgeous! Just gorgeous. What a perfect baby girl!

Beth, the old ladies coop now has six hens in it. I would guess that Sunny probably is the head hen, but hard to say. Lexie doesn't seem to have the desire for that and neither does Reba. Sunny seems very "matriarchal" to me. Sunny, Reba and Lexie are the remaining of my original ten, then there is Nugget, Olivia and little Shadow and that's it in the Old Hens' Home. When Lexie and Olivia are gone, won't be much to be head hen over, will there?

Darcy is a doll, a gorgeous little girl!

Nella, don't ya just love it when they all gather around, so eager to see you? You know, it really has nothing to do with food, they just love to see ya!

Will someone come and sweep off my patio .....

Tim, she's just the most beautiful little babe I've seen in years! Like as in a little over 17 years to be exact! Not since the birth of our own DGD Annie have I seen a lovelier baby girl!

So, you'd best get to building there Grandpa! You really do need a mantle for all of them pictures of the grand babies growing up!

Just pick a wall in the living room and do what we did:

Easy as pie! Just time consuming is all. I still have to pipe in the mortar around all of the cultured stones, and then there's some more tile work to be done at the top. But you get the idea.

And it even has a log mantle!!
lol.png
There will be a wood stove parked on this hearth pad in another week or so. And for that I can hardly wait!!! No more of winter freezing my tookus off in the big trailer!

Nella: I so had to laugh at your pictures of the hordes descending like vultures!
lol.png
It looks remarkably like my little mob! And hey! Random is what we're all about here, right? So go ahead! Let your hair down! Go just as RANDOM as you dare!!

Cynthia: I'm so sorry that you lost Tux last night. But at least, as others have already said, she didn't linger and doesn't appear to have suffered. We should all be so lucky.

Beth: Abby is still with us this morning. She doesn't seem any worse, but then she doesn't seem any better either. She spends a lot of time standing up sleeping. For some reason, she doesn't seem inclined to lay down. She just stands there with her eyes closed and her head drooping down a bit, and is always all fluffed up. The Pump House Princess was very kind and sweet in sharing her pillow last night. Sweet little FussyButt has even tried to get her sister to eat a bit, but Abby appears to have lost most of her appetite now. I'll post an update if her condition changes. Thanks for thinking about her Beth.

My goodness Kathy! You sure do have some strange looking leaves on that patio of yours!

Cyn I am so sorry about Tux but I am so happy that she did not suffer long.

So another name to go on our memorial plaque.

I will get pics of the babies today and get them up tonight if at all possible.

Here is my EE mama with her 2 babies, sired by a Delaware. See their little muffs? She was one of the boys' favorites, and after a month of no rooster in her life, she is getting her feathers back on her back. Don't you think they look like yours, LadyHawk? Here mama is trying to get them to take a nap, and all they want to do is discuss the construction flaws!
