Ohh! I could see me falling in love with the faces of the Campines! Just look at those soft, sweet, gentle eyes. Hmmm...I wonder what their personalities are like, or is this another case of "Looks can be deceiving"? What else can anyone tell me about them? Are they Bantam size? Or are they a large fowl breed? Judging by just the pictures that Tim posted, they look a bit on the small side.

Gosh darn it Tim! Why didn't you put a can of soda in the picture for size reference!!!

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! What am I gonna do with you!?!?!?

Thanks sweetie! I appreciate that!

Hmm...well, according to the article on Feather Site, they do come in both bantam and large fowl size. Markings and feathers are the same for both. It sounds like the bantam won the popularity contest as far as size is concerned though. Which probably means that my chances of finding good LF chicks or hatching eggs are slim at best. And DH won't let me have anything that could be considered an ornamental in his book! : tongue

But hey! I'm not complaining! Oh no! I AM NOT complaining! I just got the go-ahead from him today to build Brutus, Red and CB their own small coop!!

[psssttt...not that I actually needed his permission

....life is just easier when he thinks this is all HIS idea!!

] So, as soon as I have a couple of more important matters buttoned up on the house, yours truly is going to start in on the new coop for those wonderful boys of mine.

Can two more coops and a handful of girls for each of them be far behind???

William (Pine Grove) has great birds! Have you seen pictures of his RIRs? I am getting rid of all my reds within the month (cutting down). I have Buckeyes, RIRs, and rosecomb RIRs. I am selling all my Jersey Giants, too. Come on over to visit, and you can take them home with ya!

Some are from William, and some from Dick Horstman.

Hi Amy! Yes I got your voicemail, I'm sorry-I went straight to bed last night after I realized what time it was! Expect a return phone call woman!

Kathyinmo-you never know I may just show up on your doorstep! LOL. I am in love with buckeyes too! Ugh! There's just way too many breeds to choose from! I love all of these heritage syle breeds and some of the fancy ones too.
Oh who am I kidding I haven't met a chicken I didn't like! So far anyways lol! I am definitely leaning torwards William so much so that I've been putting money in my chicken envelope! Lol Thank you so much for your input- I really appreciate it!

Good Morning, everybody- I am pooped out and have the grim task ahead of me- I got the answer from Walt Leonard re: The Delaware Dilemma" and am going to go make a thread now- give me a half hour or so, and then go see if I have written it in a way that makes sense, OK? It will be in the breeds, genetics and showing section. I'ts an answer that I think most people will say is fair, and actually helpful.

Those campines are pretty, pretty, pretty.

Lets' try this again.

Good morning folks,

Praying everyone on the east coast is safe from the hurricane. Please don't take any chances and bring your birds inside with you.

Love ya all

Beth, I can hardly wait to hear the answer to the dilemma.

Weirdest thing happened last night. My computer is in my basement studio, next to the walk out door. I got home from work and got on the computer for a bit, and I heard the LOUDEST owl hooting ..... sounding like it was right next to the door. I (carefully) went outside and looked around with a flashlight, but never did find it. I am a big scaredy cat, and it did frighten me. I hope the thing does not come back again tonight. Do you think it will? I have my young Silkies near this location, and wonder if the owl is checking things out.

Good Morning!

Well what a morning. Cheyenne missed the bus today...how convenient. This led to a discussion and the discovery that she had in school suspension today for trying to skip study hall with a friend two days ago.

I will deal with her later today. You all can starting

for her backside now.

I get back to let the birds out and I discover that I have another rooster.

A silkie crowed, I have no idea which one but one of them is without a doubt a boy. Oh what fun now to try to catch the little one crowing so I know who the culprit is. LOL

I am going to have another cup of coffee and start my day over I think. hahaha

Forget the coffee ..... go back to bed !

Awwww, poor Cheyenne. I am thinking she is not looking forward to coming home after school today.

On the Silkie boy .... Can you just look for a bigger comb? Those "knobby" combs seem to pop up later than with other breeds, I think. And because they are not bright cherry red, they are much less noticeable.
