Amy, Cetawin, it is a long story- I bred this girl in - let's see, she was born in 1996, She was a wonderful halter horse, and won a nice prize or two the year I showed her. She has had three drop dead gorgeous babies. She is probably my favorite horse I ever bred, and my DH adores her. HOWEVER, we weren't going to breed anymore, and my dear friend back in Wisconsin wanted to breed her to a big name stallion, so I gave her to my friend. Now my friend is having serious business troubles and needs to move some of her horses. I have the option of taking her back, and I would love to, but DH and I have promised ourselves to downsize- money is a bit tight, ya know? Plus, the two we have are in their mid 20's, and will not probably be here in another 5 years or so. Taking my girl back would be another long range committment that we are not sure we can handle - lugging 50 pound sacks of feed and stacking hay and all that is getting too much for my body. My knees are shot, and riding - well, I have given it up. And I HATE to board horses. You never know what will happen.
She us beautiful, grey, green broke, loves people. She had lots of halter training, but wasn't a freak. She is a typical Arab with some snort and blow and tail over back, but is very sensible. She had about three months under western saddle, and never gave us a problem. She lunges, is great with the farrier, blah, blah, blah. No problems that I ever encountered. Honest.
Amy, you are sweet - but it sounds like you are in the same boat I am with lifting. Cetawin, if you wanted her and I could figure out how to get her down here, I can't think of a better person to care for her and have fun with her. Her name is Joleta Bey. So you see how much she meant to me. . . . .

Aw Beth!

I'm sorry about Joleta Bey. She sounds like she was, and still is, very special to you. Getting older SUCKS! I don't know about you, but I resent every single ache, pain and blurry vision moment of it!

Old age......it ain't for the faint of heart!

Have you any pictures of her Beth? Just to satisfy my curiousity perhaps?

I have tons of pictures of her, Amy, but not on the computer and we no longer have a scanner. I will see if I can scan some at work Thursday. She is fleabitten grey, not dappled.
Yes, I do hate getting older and creakier. I keep saying I am too young to have arthritis, but my doctor says "oh well" and then suggest lots of drugs, which I refuse to take. I try to work on eating to reduce inflammation, and I think it is helping.

Okay what, i have another darn leghorn/giant broody. In addition to the other leghorn/giant that went broody last week. Of these 4 girls, each has gone broody at least twice now. RIDICULOUS. They are just turning a year old this fall. It's just not normal! LOL

My half blind leghorn/giant hen went broody again today and stole the blue cochin hen's nest. Those eggs have to be getting ready to hatch pretty soon so I stole them back and gave them to the blue girl. Sigh.

Crazy broodies. I am halfway tempted to order some day olds and just pass them out like candy LOL

Beth get me some pics of this sweet thing so I can show DH and do some major fast talking. What is the asking price for her? Did you register her (not that it matters to me one way or the other). She is not a knothead is she...in other words is she hot-bloodied/of Eastern blood or a half breed? Do you recall how big she is? I am thinking not only for me but also for Cheyenne depending on her temperament under saddle.

I also have to run an acre plus of fencing to finish it up here and keep a horse out of the woodline but that is not a biggie really. So lets see what I can work out with DH.

Now your user name makes sense to me

Registered, purebred Arabian - her daddy was Bey Shah X Gainey bred mare; I still have her mama, who is a Tah Zaman daughter out of a mare also tracing to Ferzon a different way.
No knotheads here, in fact, let me tell you a story about her mama, Elite. She had been briefly shown at halter, green broke, and then turned into a brood mare. She had probably not been ridden for 10 -12 years when I loaned her to a friend who had a blind gelding that needed a companion. After a day in the stall next to the gelding, she went out to pasture with him, pretty as you please, the gelding's owner watched for a while, saw that nothing was happening that she needed to worry about, and went inside for a cup of coffee. She got talking to someone, and came out to find the neighbor's 10 year old boy disappearing into the woods on Elite, bareback with just a halter- by the time she got down the drive and across the field, they were out of site. Half hour later, they came back, the kid grinning, and Elite proud as punch at having a kid to take care of.
Elite also appeared on a poster for a local production of Equus, with a kid who had never ridden before and who had come out to learn something about grooming horses so he wouldn't look like an idiot on stage. We threw him up on her, bareback, and she took him around the paddock and stood stock still while he threw his arms in the air and posed for poster pictures.

Jo herself is close to 15 hands- Cetawin, I honestly don't know how she would do as a trail horse, having never tried her. When spooked, most Arabs TEND to the flight part of "flight or fight", but I have never seen her do more than lickety split for a few dozen yards, then turn and see what was up.
My DH used to hang all over her and he basically learned not to fear horses around her. The only times I have ever seen her get hot and bounce all over the place was when she would come out of the halter arena, which was in '97 and '98 and when her mama interfered with her foal. (Elite wanted the baby for herself, I think, and kept screaming at Jo in the barn, and we had to send her away for a while)
Let me see what we can do about pics. I pm'd you.

Yes and Lord only knows what else it will require or that he will demand. pfffftttttt

Beth - Bey Shah - Holy Crap! He is like the most awesome foundation stallion next to his sire (I believe was Bey El Bey yes?) that I could ever imagine. Ferzon on the dam's side, like double holy crap...

I mean Bey Shah is up there with El Mokhtar and Tahr, both beautiful blacks but still. For those who are lost...El Mokhtar was the stallion used in the first Black Stallion movie.

A horse with bloodlines like that!?!? Oh Cetawin! I sure hope you can arrange something!!! Now I really wanna see pictures of Joleta Bey! I bet she's just drop dead gorgeous! Does she have that sweet little dished head so typical of Arabs that we have around here? And huge gentle eyes?
love.gif
Oh crap! I'm falling in love with her myself, and I haven't even seen a picture of her yet!

Nella, don't complain dear. Just endure. They can't stay broody forever and come next spring, you'll be thankful for having girls who will go broody for you. Just think of all those chicks you'll want to hatch next April or May! Then think of how much more fun it would be to stick them under a broody instead. No nail biting moments in a power outage!

Yeah, her bloodlines are pretty good- Tah Zaman was a *Morafic grandson - and *Morafic was one of the most exotic looking Arabians ever imported. And her sire's tail female goes to Gai-Gay Rose, one of the prime Gainey bred mares. Bey Shah was a *Bask grandson, too. In fact, I think there is double *Bask there, as I believe Ariston, her paternal granddam's grandsire was a *Bask son. Whew- Can you keep up with that?

Sad news. I found Luke dead in the coop this morning. No reason that I can tell. No one was acting weird yesterday, the hens seem fine this morning. Lizzie is upset, as she and Luke were pretty close, but there are no mites or lice on anyone, no one acting abnormally this morning. It was hot here again yesterday, but I didn't think it was that hot. I had grown to love that silly boy, he was SO good to his girls - always calling them to eat and not touching a crumb till he knew there was plenty of treats for everyone.

This is the thing that bugs me the worst - they just seem to drop for no reason- maybe I just don't know enough yet, but I can tell when horses, dogs or cats don't feel good.
