Luke dead? Just like that? What is up with these boys dropping dead anyway? I'm so sorry, Beth!

I'm jealous of Cetawin's potential horse. I had ponies most of my life and then they bought a horse for me....when I went away to college.

Never even rode him. Granddaddy kept him at the farm in west Ga, called him "Bob", so, since he was sort of strawberry blonde, I called him Robert Redford, LOL.

Beth I am so sorry about Luke

...this danged heat is hard on the boys I believe. They are always so uptight doing their jobs and being alert...seems like they never rest once they wake up. I believe that and the heat is what gets them.

Amy -

She would have to have that beautiful dish head...there would be no avoiding it with those bloodlines. The only time you do not see it is when you get the american and european bloodlines there. Then it is either lost or looks like a deformity. At least in my opinion.

Well the truck gets dropped off this morning to have the rear axle put on...we shall see how it feels after the new one is on. Keep your fingers crossed all.

Jolet: I am sorry about Luke. I've always consoled other with "these things happen and you should feel no guilt" and other things like that and then it happened to me finding a hen dead in the run for no apparent reason. Of course there is a reason it's just not one I choose to persue. The reason just doesn't include anything we've done. You surely have my sympathy. I'm just glad there are folks here who understand our grief cuz friends and family sure don't.

For the rest of you not to big on horses except there is the Bay? that's on the critical list with the ALBC. Wish I were younger I'd start a "Heritage Breed Farm". Is there such a place already? Well take care.

Love ya

Joletabey, I am so sorry on the loss of your boy! I don't know why the heck they drop dead other than they take care of their girls and neglect themselves? I noticed my lav roo taking a dust bath by himself-while he kept a very watchful eye on his girls! They all happened to be in one spot, so I think he might have actually felt like he could take a minute for himself?!

Its heartbreaking when you get a good roo and they fall over for no apparent reason. I had a gorgeous CM roo that was about 4.5 mos old when he dropped and I was really ticked cuz I wanted him for breeding. I had gotten 3 girls and 1 roo as chicks from Tim and needless to say we were both upset, because he had just sold Eric when this one departed. Its a complete mystery sometimes. Anyways, I'm sorry!!

There Dels that's good enough for me, btw, BO hatched out all four of her eggs, so hopefully there'll be some pullets in there.

I've got one broody due to hatch hers on Saturday and another next Wednesday. Here's hoping for pullets!!! Between the 2 they're hatching out 8 eggs, it'd be nice to get at least 4 pullets out of that.

Tim, I'm hoping you're not taking offense to my posting pics of the roo on here, I'm not being critical of your stock, not in the least. I've always felt that if I were to breed, I'd want to breed only the best. This roo is the best out of the three I've got, at least in my very limited knowledgeable opinion, lol! But I just feel that if they're a heritage/endangered breed, then I'd want to preserve the quality, not necessarily the quantity of the breed. Am I making any sense? It sounds good in my head, but sometimes when I write things down, they don't come out quite the way I want it to! So anyways, no hard feelings?

After all, you're the one that got me hooked on these guys!!

Please spare me! If I end up commited for my chicken addiction you'll be there right beside me, I'll see to that. We'll be like the drug dealers who the cops say open your mouth and they'll find a chick inside. Chicks in all our pockets. We'll have spouses who get caught trying to smuggle chickens into the jail. Get the picture?

I've got three roos other than Nick and Georgia boy running around so you can have your pick of any of them. Two of them don't look good at all. Now I know these four chicks I've got and the ones you hope to hatch out are all the WNY line. I've got records of the numbered hens and Nick is the dad.

Here's some pics of my smallest egg. It's 1 1/2 " long and 4" around. I figure it was Buckwheat, Frenchy (hatchery red/blk friz bantam) and Erics' (CM) daughter but she seperated with Frenchy and hasn't laid anything so I don't know for sure. It would have been her first egg. DW found it on the ground outside the coop. It was in the mud and I never would have noticed it. I washed it off and it's still that dark.

I can just see our spouses running hell bent for leather, smuggling chickens! LOL

I am so jealous of that little dark egg! When the heck are my CM girls gonna lay?? GRRR!!!! Oh well, I haven't even seen their fat fluffy butts in the nesting boxes yet, so who knows. Soon, I'm hoping or you're gonna find a box under your window! LOL

Psst.....feel eyes on you????
