I can hear them ALL. Even in the rooster pen out back behind the garage. They are "quieter" since they are far away but I can hear the boys well......I use it to determine if something is wrong out back. They usually do not crow RELENTLESSLY unless something is wrong.

Or they are having a crowing competition.

The one under my window was a bantam. Little bast@rd. My big blue cochin sounds like tarzan. Aaaoaoaoaoaoaooaoaoaoooaaooaooa. My blue wheaten amer boy is a very loud and forceful crower. Sounds like he flings that crow out with a high power rifle. COCKADOODLE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Hi-yah!

Crazy roosters. I am considering rounding up all of my "extra roosters"....2 BIG silver laced boys, golden campine and 1 bantam cochin boy.....and throw them all into the rooster pen with the 4 evil boys. I figure that willl even the odds a bit. If I add 1 rooster, those 4 boys will kill it. Maybe if I add 4 roosters, including some big mean ones, they will just all agree to disagree.

And Lisette and Cosette are every bit as entertaining! Why would anyone lay about the house all day watching television, when they could have chickens such as these to entertain them?

I should cancel DirecTV and put the money into special treats for the chickens!

It would certainly be money better spent!

I know! I don't even watch TV anymore! They are just too much fun. Today the Delawares went nuts over cranberries. I had 2 packages I didn't use (because I forgot I had them). You should have seen Jacob. He was so funny. He kept trying to give them to the girls, but he liked them so much himself ..... he gave up and just gobbled down as many as he could. He is so sweet. I love the way he takes them so gently from my hand. Unlike the girls, who poke and gouge me when they are piggin' out!

Yay she will be here between 10 am and 1 pm. I told Tony not to drive it straight through to go ahead and stop for the night because he is going to Missouri and Oklahoma from here. So he is about 520 miles from here sleeping for the night.

he said Jo is not tied inside the trailer and she has been an angel, she is not moving around much at all, he has not felt her movements from the truck so he was impressed with her being such a good girl. She jumped a tiny bit like she was spooked when she smelled the trailer and then she walked right in.

We had horrid winds here today and it leveled about 40 feet and 3 rail fencing so, my neighbor has moved his stallion and is letting me off load her into that paddock for a couple of days while we get the fence fixed...so I will drive down and feed her twice per day and lord only knows how many more trips just to talk to her.

There will be pictures....yes yes

I finally figured out that CB's mission in life, his whole reason for being, is to keep Brutus and Red from killing each other. He puts the run on those two so often, all day long, that they don't have time to get into any kind of ...ahem..."crowing" contests with each other!
lol.png
So, go ahead and put the four extra boys in with the other four evil boys. You'll probably never hear another peep out of any of them!

Cranberries? Really? They like those? I would have thought them too tart. I'll have to pick some up the next time I'm out and about. Should be able to pick them up relatively cheap now that Thanksgiving is behind us.

Did you ever try bananas on Maggie and the girls? I gave them some in their oatmeal, veggies and yogurt the other day. Maggie didn't hesitate, but jumped right in. It was the first thing she grabbed out of the pile. The twins looked at the whole thing rather suspiciously at first, but after seeing mama pound it down like there was no tomorrow, they went ahead and joined her. In less than five minutes, all three had bulging tummies and I swear I heard contented little burps coming from each of them!

I hear ya on the pecking business! What is it with these girls? Nearly every single one of mine is that way too. The boys, including Chief, are such sweethearts when I offer them treats. They'll try to offer it up through the fence line to the girls if they can. Sometimes they actually manage it. But most of the time they're content to just take goodies politely and gently from my hands. Chief takes food gently too, but then turns right around and offers it up to those silly girls!

If it's something particularly good that I want him to share in, I have to take 3 times the normal amount of treats out so that I know he'll at least get two or three pieces for himself! Such a dedicated boy.

Ohhh! And speaking of Chief.... Cetawin, you'll appreciate this.... Chief has been getting more and more affectionate [if that's possible] the longer we're under this blanket of snow. Last night and again tonight, Chief cuddled up in my lap out in the coop for the better part of a half hour. He loves to have me stroke him under his wings and hold his feet in my hands. I guess even roosters toes get cold in this weather! Poor little man! But oh what a sweet, SWEET boy he is!
love.gif
I'm sure if I could have withstood the cold myself, I'd still be out there with him cuddled up on my lap....three hours later!

A good rooster to break up fights is worth his weight in gold. My "higher up" rooster do that.....

Here is a short, very low quality video of my big blue cochin rooster intervening in a fight between Mr Mottled, my bantam mottled cochin rooster (who is evil) and my (now sold) bantam mille fleur cochin rooster. CLICK ON each video to see it.

Then he got tired of it and you can see him just walk away from their fight....fortunately, reinforcements arrived LOL.
