Kathy will be supplying me with my next BRs, I think. They are awesome! Mine are getting up in years. Lexie is almost five, Becca and Amanda are three-and-a-half, Fern is almost two years old and Barbara is almost one year. Only Barbara and Fern are currently laying of those five Rock hens. Need some new blood in here.

Slowly, my flock is becoming all barred and blue Rocks with some Ameraucanas thrown in for variety. I do love my Buff Orp hens, though. Nugget is almost two, from Jody's flock, and Sunny, who is a hatchery girl, is five years old now. They are the only two Buffs I have left of my three-Ginger died a few months ago, if you recall. Both Sunny and Nugget have been broody twice (Nuggs is trying to do it a 3rd time, too). Ginger never had a break for a broody spell, though. I like them to brood once a year mainly because it gives them a rest from laying.

Nella, are they there using your new broody coop that you're working on? I'm kind of confused... is that your old one? Or did you finish the new? And NEVER a BR?!?!?!? I need to hook you up with some people

Cyn, your flock is gettin' old! It's time for a big hatch! Why don't you join Mahonri with the new year thing? Along with Goldie the crazy broody lady.

Nope, haven't finished the broody coops yet. They are using my 4 garage brooders. (these pix are old and don't reflect who is where now....I put descriptions that are accurate for now)

The "brooder shed" (teenagers on top level, bantam cochin hen and babies on left and rir/cochin hen and babies on right)

And the big brooder unit (Silkie mom and babies on top level, and barred cochin and babies on bottom level)

WEll bad news the 12 Barred Rock eggs were all duds. My momma is disappointed, but I told her I would figure something out. The 6 new babies are doing great!

Sounds bad doesnt it. I talked to the lady that sent them to me, and apparently she is having a lot of bad reports back on her eggs. She said that they hatch great at home, but the shipped ones aren't. I had 7 of my own eggs in with them 6 of those hatched. So it wasn't my fault. I did eggtopsy and all 12 of the BRs were empty not even a blood ring.

Oh. Hate those darn shipped eggs... I'm always hesitant about that.
