Our Shadow hooked us with her BIG personality. She really is The Little Princess around here. She has her own separate special roost bar (one in both coops, actually, but Tiny is using her old one in the main coop). She is the only bantam among 31 chickens and is spoiled rotten. I was going to try to hatch her a little pint sized hubby or buy her one--plus, I don't ever want any of Ideal's standard breeds again, at least not the common ones. All but three have died from internal laying of my originals. Bantams can live in the Old Hens' Coop with the elderly hens and Shadow.

See? The Princess:

No. No. No. No. If that's all there is, Nugget must be satisfied with whatever hatches. No. No SILKIES!

The feedstore has a white Silkie hen with a blue bow on her head (I kid you not) who lives on the counter. Her toenails are painted neon pink. Her name is Baby. If you lean too close, she'll peck your eye out, trust me. She does not endear me to Silkies in the least.

You are kidding me? I am rolling on the floor laughing at that picture!

My Silkies couldn't ever do that................. cuz they can't even see! (Unless I trim their crests!

which I need to do, dang it)

Oh, except my rooster, Mr. Alpha of the property, Silver. His molt has caused him to be able to see very well, with little crest left, and he can jump OVER even the largest of my chickens. They all run from him.

Yeah, Cyn, you better not get any Silkies. Because IF you do ...... you will be in love with them, and have to go into hiding.

I have 2 silkies. they are cute but not my thing either. HOWEVER! Silkie/Cochin crosses are the cutest ever. Especially if you have a bearded silkie in the cross, so they will be bearded. Seriously cutest birds ever.

I am not kidding about Baby the Silkie hen. She is a menace! There is also a Dutch bantam rooster who lives on a high-up swing in that store. His name is Rooster Cogburn and he stays on that darn swing and crows his heart out while he swings.

The closest thing to a Silkie we've ever had were my three Poufy Head Sisters, Kate, Tux and Olivia, all gone now. Their sire was a big Cochin/Silkie cross and their mom was a Barred Rock. They were beautiful girls, super shiny black feathers (normal ones) and the best disposition and personalities you've ever seen. I miss them so much, but other than their little modified poufs, you'd never know they were part Silkie.

I sold mine recently to the family that came out. She loved to be held so she was perfect for them.

I'll have to see if I have a picture of her.
