Brandon, I have never hatched or even had a turkey before. Congratulations! I'm excited to watch yours grow!

I have 5 new Icelandics hatched, and 3 BCMarans (my stock that I just stuck in), and I see a couple more BCM pipped. I pulled out one of the dark olive eggs, and sure enough it was not fertile. So, I pulled them all out. Darn, I want some fertile eggs!

Thanks Kathy!! I've never had turkies before nor has any of my family so its gonna be a learning experience. I really wanted a goose, but learned they can be dirty birds, lol . So I decided to get turkies. Did some research and found out alot about the Midget Whites. Don't quote me but I think that around 1976 they were almost extinct. A man found six and bred them and brought them out of extinction and they were named one of the best tasting turkies of 2010. Just thought it was a neat story. Congrats on the hatch. As far as the olive eggers I plan on crossing my BCMs I have two with my Blue EE roo in the spring. The BCMs havent layed yet.

Well I gotta hit the hay. I have to work in the morning, ugh. Merry Christmas everyone!, and safe travels!!

Kathy I am sorry to hear about Brock...the holidays around here can be touch and go to at times... my DH lost his father when he was only 11 years old on Dec 12, 1985...and he saw the plane crash on the TV before the military had even notified any of the families. So...it is just not his best time of year because Christmas was sort of ruined for him at a young age....but you know what? We get through it one day at a time. *****Hugs*****

As for moving the get together date.....I can do it Mother's Day Weekend (6, 7 & 8th), the second weekend (which is currently the date 13, 14 & 15th) or the 4th weekend (27, 28 & 29th)... The third weekend is out for us. So you all tell me what you want to do? Brandon you get your birthday cake either way.

Update on my sister: She is currently at the Mayo clinic and has had 4 of these neuro gamma radiation treatments....She is not handling too well. She is suffering severe nausea and excruiating headaches. They have given her medication to take in the evening as well as IV meds at the time of treatment...they are having little affect on her pain and nausea. However, they aid the tumor seems to be responding to the radiation, in that it is showing signs of adverse reaction to the radiation. So, hopefully that is something good coming from all of this. She is far from out of the woods and still has an undetermined prognosis and we are praying for a healing miracle.

As for me....well I sleep very little, am forcing a lot of food down to try to fight this ridiculous sinus infection and have still managed to slide back down to a mere 91.8 pounds *sigh* I really really need a vacation/emotional break but we go on with the cards we are dealt. So, I just baked 2 loaves of pumpkin bread, 2 vanilla pound cakes and am preparing to make 2 applesauce cakes/loaves and pumpkin pies. Or maybe I will go to a hot bath and then bed. Who knows...meanwhile, I have prepared for this coming week and the storm moving in...so 4 more days of snow coming for us beginning tomorrow and I still have not gotten my van out where it has been stuck for a week from the last snows. So, I have plenty of Chicken, Duck, Dog, Horse and people food and we are ready to wait this one out. DH leaves Sunday for a week of winter training with the Cadets so I am on my own through this storm. Cheyenne chopped more firewood today which seemed to amuse the Diva who watched from her stall and even snickered a couple of times...I am almost sure those were snickers.

Ah, yup! I'd say that most certainly is Floozy's progeny. Notice how she's looking around for the next stage of her great escape!!

What an incredibly long day!!
th.gif
We're hosting a sleep over of Annie's best friend [Cassy: great kid, and I love her to pieces!] and Annie's fiance [Mario: Definite son in law materials there!
love.gif
] and all day I've been running around trying to get all of the bedrooms straightened out so that everyone gets a good night sleep. Somehow, I don't think the kids plan on getting much sleep though. Oh to be that young again! *sigh*

I've spent the bulk of the day washing all of the bedding around here. I still can't get over the fact that the new washer and dryer have the capacity to wash the entire compliment of bedding for a king sized bed and still have room left over!

Is it wrong for one to be in love with their washer and dryer??

Best investment in household appliances we've ever made!

The roads were absolutely treacherous this afternoon when I finally got the time to zip out to the commissary at Fairchild AFB. I didn't get out of there until well past sundown, and those roads froze up in a heartbeat!

Talk about some white knuckled driving!

You know it's bad when your brand new studless snow tires are spinning and fishtailing all over the place. And gosh darn it! I KNOW how to drive in snow and ice! It was a real challenge to say the least.

But, we now have another 2 weeks of food laid in, and no need to leave the house until that runs out. So, Let it Snow! Let it Snow! LET IT SNOW!!!!
wee.gif

I'm gonna head to bed, no matter what kind of shenanigans the kids are contemplating.

These tooth picks can only do so much towards keeping my eyes open ya know!

I hope everyone has a wonderful CHRISTmas eve.

Remember to hug your chickens, and I sure hope for all y'alls sake, you remembered some special treats for them on Christmas morning! Mine are going to have a special feast, including sweet potatoes!!

Yup Amy that is without a doubt "Floozy, The Sequel"...

I hear ya about the roads...I went up the hill on our roads today danged near sideways....Cheyenne was a bit nervous and said

"Mom, don't ya think you should drive up the hill STRAIGHT?" I said "Normally yes but the ice has different plans today but have no fear when we get to the top we will be going straight again"...she could not fathom that...had to see it and experience it to "get it". Heck my van has been stuck for over a week. And it has started snowing here already....so 4 more days of it coming.

Night all!

NOOOOO! Down souuuuuth we beg for snow! The weather report changed to 60% prep tomorrow, but no more snow... just showers.
th.gif
But I don't think I could ever do a sunny Christmas, it just has to be raining in some form. My sister is real excited about "santa coming" tonight. She's asked for a pillow pet (
idunno.gif
) and some cupcake making thing. So darn cute. I bought her the new Taylor Swift CD. She might be in Kindergarten, but as long as she stays away from Lady Gaga she's manageable.
Garsh! And I don't get my octagon eco. Brinsea sold out... of course.
rant.gif
I also need to run out and buy some more feed, because usually I mix crumbles with oyster shell and birdseed, but somehow the birdseed got wet and now the whole container is all moldy.

On the bright side, next week I'm going to a breeder a little north of Atlanta to get three laying girls. We'll do a five week quarantine and then they'll be with us for good. Woo-hoo! I'm looking for any of these...

While I'm there I might try to pick up a few pullet chicks too for the new brooder. Sound good? Cyn, they'll be housed in the small coop I posted asking about cocci.

Biscuit (my dog, Havanese, 5 yrs) got a haircut and now his hair is half a cm long. Poor thing! Usually when we take him he just gets trimmed but they shaved him all off. And they left his head and tail cut so he looks like a messed up poodle. I'll get a picture later today. Along with that, we have my grandmother in town with an evvvvil dog who likes to rip Biscuit's little ears and terrorize the chickens so there's no free ranging this week.

And along with this, does anyone know of a good poultry/chicken genetics book? https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5342278#p5342278

Happy holidays!
