Kathy, you did get some birds from Claudia, right? She had some of Janet's earlier stock, some that Kira came from. Kira was the carrier and she was in no way related to Isaac or Jacob. It was determined that Isaac was not carrying the dwarf gene at the time. I'm wondering if some of Claudia's were related to Kira, so that would be hard to find. You'd need genetic testing on what you got from her, but if you don't know which ones those are....do you think Oliver was out of that bunch? If so, could be he is the one, and when added to another in that line, that would produce them. What a puzzler!
Maybe you should contact Janet Holtman, but she told me that Ike was not at all related to Kira and the chances of a dwarf gene in TWO different lines would be pretty unlikely, don't you think? It would mean that Kira was carrying a double copy.
Has to be, according to the vet that did genetic testing on Kira's daughter. The bad thing would be if you got rid of Jacob and it was actually Oliver and one of his half sisters that were the carriers.

We have the rare advantage of not guessing about this double dwarf gene since by a strange set of circumstances, we have the benefit of actual genetic testing on Kira's progeny. The problem is that you have other birds thrown in the mix from Claudia, so that means you're back to square one with this issue unless you can determine which are from hers, and therefore, some of Janet's earlier stock.

I so hate to do this. Mike and I talked and talked about it..... It is apparent that he and some of the girls carry the gene. I am keeping Oliver and 4 girls. I will hatch some of their chicks, and see how that goes.
