If you have true wild type mallards the 11mm band they have should work we have used them on black ducks and they should be about the same as mallards, or toe clipping is really easy.
toe nail clippers or scissors, dont use a knife.
It's best to do them at a day or so old, they virtually dont bleed at all then. They still wont be bad now though, but if that's what you are going to do, go on and do it now, the longer you wait the more the bone developes in there, same with pinioning. At hatch, the tip joint is mainly just skin, so it just snips right off for you.
