Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Pics
here are a couple more....we may have to adjust the legbands still. not sure if they're comfy and the right fit for them. (sorry for the hairy pad they're on- our dogs lay on it.) I just love photographing them. They are full of personality and so cute!

look at that profile on Sasha!

Thanks for reminding me about the sale thread. I just hate to buy eggs and have them turn out white too! I wish I could buy colored goslings. Or if you ever figure out your color ratio in goslings...
Scout is very cute! They are fat little things aren't they? te he

Lisa, very cute babies.

We are in the middle of another round of hatching here with more due Monday, Wednesday and Saturday again next week. So far has been a very good season, sent 5 babies off to new homes, lots of babies growing out now. Lots of interesting looking goslings so far and two full racks of eggs still incubating.

here are a few questions running through my mind...

for you way more experienced goose keepers.
How long do you brood baby Sebs indoors?
What age are they when you let them try swimming in shallow water?
How long, and at what age, do you introduce babies to the adults (parents) before they are accepted?
About how many eggs do you let sit until Mama Seb goes broody?
If a broody mama Seb hatches her own babies, can older ones (say 6-8 weeks old) be added to the group at that time?
ok, enough for now...my brain can only handle so many questions and so much new info at a time.

Here are my very limited experience answers to these questions. I kept my seb goz inside for 1 1/2 months. I enjoyed him so much! I gave him a shallow bowl of water on day one. (with the heat lamp on) I tried introducing baby to adults at about 2-2 1/2 mo old. He was terrified of his parents because he thought he was a person! So I kept him with some teen runner ducks, until he was way bigger than them. Then I let the gosling out with adults at about 3-4 mo old and he didn't like them but finally figured out he was part of their flock.

I let my geese lay in their boxes until she had about 1 dozen, then I took 5 to incubate. Shortly after she set on the rest. If you let them set, they will stop laying eggs. But I found if I waited too late in the season to let them set, then the eggs were not fertile.

I have just let my seb hatch her own brood this year for the first time. I don't know if she would accept older babies or not...
Good luck!

First incubated seb gosling is out tonight! It had zipped all the way around, but had not ripped the membrane. It was still soft and not dried out. So I very carefully, very slowly helped it out. (not trying to encourage that or anything.) So cute when they talk to you! Have 1 more zipping now and 1 more pipped. 2 others are not doing anything and not peeping. ={

Hope you get lots more fuzzy butts! They are cute when they talk/look at you! I want to see pics, ok?
Thanks for your answers to my questions too. Hope someone else pops in with their 2 cents.
