Hi everybody.... Sorry for not dropping in more often.. I have just been run ragged I tell you. The three white sebbies I got last yr turned out to be all boys... Soo Rosie is now Ross... lol oh well.. Thanks to Goose n Fig I was able to obtain a goose, Suzette. She and Garth hit it off from day one. BUT.. I didn't manage to hatch any of them successfully I think I need to dedicate one bator to only goose eggs.

My sister sent me eggs... managed to hatch one of those Then she sent me a gosling So now I have 4 whites and 2 with color. I will post pictures of them later...

I noticed that Suzette is smaller and tank like.. Her neck is shorter too. Than the known ganders in my flock.... Are these traits used to help determine gender? I have noticed the gosling Vivi sent me has similar type.... Soo would the chances of that one being a girl be a fair assessment??

Ganders are usually a bit wider, and a head taller than the geese. The boys are soprano and girls are bass.

Body type and neck length varies greatly out there, so I wouldn't bet solely on that to determine sex.

I had 2 geese together last season.. no eggs and no actually breeding was observed.. They did fight some in the pool. Soo figured they are both boys I placed one of them in a wonderful home last weekend. The gander is now known as Gus. His honk is deep..... did I make a mistake and let a goose go??

At what age are Sebastopol geese "full grown"?

Also, do both girls and boys occasionally do the high pitched yelling? or do I have 2 boys?

I've never had a first year goose not lay eggs. You more than likely made the correct decision.

Generally the females sound like they are saying a deep "what, what, what". Boys are more outgoing and social with people and usually are loud and boisterous.

I lost 1 of my sebbies last week to nasty weather. Thinking it was my gander. They were a young pair & it was the high pitched screamer that I lost. Now I'm searching for a pair (to make a trio) in any color. I'm willing to drive a couple hours to meet someone who has what I need. I'm between Wheeling, WV & St Clairsville, OH.
