These beautiful specimens belong to Dan Powell. If I hatch ones half as nice I will be ecstatic!

TAZ you have WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more patience than I do. I wouldn't have lasted that long with my own mother let alone a stranger!

You probably made her day and KUDOS to you for it!!!!

...he did mention i would want some sort of Smart chick they can learn from.
Any old chick will do. Poults are sometimes a little slow to pick up on the whole eating and drinking thing, so if you hatch chicks at the same time, they will "tutor" the poults and get them going. They're not a necessity but may make your life a little easier in those first few days. Since chicks incubate a week less, a lot of people will set the turkey eggs and then a week later, throw in a few chicken eggs so they all hatch at the same time.

Soooo I posted an ad on craigslist to sell some chicks. I got a call from a lady, she said she has 13 chicks she needs to find a home for. She bought them 2 weeks ago and now she is moving. I explained that I did not need any more chicks and that she should place an ad on CL. She did now know how, so I walked her through the CL part. We hung up. 10 minutes later she calls me back. I have been on the phone with her for 10 minutes trying to get her signed in to her Gmail account. At one point she was inputting her gmail information on CL. She is now on the Gmail account and can't find where it says to read her mail.

OK, I just hung up with her. The 2nd call was 42 minutes long, but she got her ad posted.
At first I was going to

and then I realized I'm not too far away from being there myself. Technology changes faster than I can keep up with it. So instead I will say

to you for having the patience to work with her and help her.

So I just totally cheered myself up. I have 12+ buff/golden laced Brahma eggs heading my way today to add this weekend for tutors. I have light and dark Brahmas already and other than Randy (my light Brahma roo who has decided to be a jerk and is not long for this world - just need a new propane burner) I just love my Brahmas. I have been wanting to get the new laced colors for a while but since they are new they have been somewhat pricey. Found a pretty good deal on the 12 here. Can't wait to set those babies too!

soooooo jealous..exactly what I want...I'd settle for any brahma's at this point though!
How much did you charge her for Tech support?

sooooooooooo pretty!

Ok...2 question for this noob....if I set them pointy side down do I need to rotate them, and if so, how?

Second...I saw someone had a turkey hatching guide/chart in their siggy...anyone know of a similar one or ducks? I have no idea what the air sacs should look like or what they should way....I read a thing that said I should raise humidity to 75% or so for hatch day...I have it at 55 right now...do you think that's ok? What are the benefits of dry hatching? What are the dangers of having the humidity high? What are the pro's? I never knew hatching eggs was so involved! lol

Oh, and how soon is it possible to see anything when candling?

I really love their temperament and they do really well in the cold weather here in Utah. I do have to say though, I have some Ameraucanas that have a great temperament and with the pea combs as well, they do really good here too.

You rock them side to side if they are in holders (most people will rock the whole incubator by putting a board under one side and then changing sides). If they are laying flat, most people put an "X" on one side and an "O" on the other and just turn them so that one or the other is facing up.

You must speak to "Miss SCG" to get an answer to that question. She is the candling "Queen"

Carefully sand off the brown pigment in stripes, end to end, to look like a striped watermelon. Look at Renee's posts, ( CHooksChick) and see if she has instructions listed. I got the info from her originally. I know I have it stored in Word if you need me to find it.

Did you see Renees link?
Is it too late to do this after they have already been set? Wish I'd seen this a few days ago!

We have pretty cold winters here in MI (no idea what they are like compared to Utah) but that's one of the reason's I like them...I love my Easter Egger (She *might* be an Amerecauna...got her from someone local who was calling her an Aracauna, which she is most definitely not.) She is very sweet. All three of my chickens did great through the winter.

Thanks for the info! That's what I was going to do was just sort of tip them side to side, but I was worried that wouldn't be enough. Thanks!

lol.. need to send some emu eggs your way.. no way to candle them and they take around 55 days (give or take depending on bator temps)
now they will keep ya in suspense!
lau.gif

You can send them here... I'll give you a daily candling report. And I assure you, I'll find a way to candle them.

When I was in college the school had a cow with a "window" so you could watch the digestion. Just sayin'
