Could be... His feathers actually all come in silver and then yellow over the course of the year. But it's more dramatic on his hackle and saddle feathers... Is that typical?Black birds can be. Though Barred Plymouth Rocks are typically silver based. But the father isn't silver based, he's heterozygous for silver and gold, so that's why I asked.
He also had the world slowest molt... Still going. He'll lose all those yellow feathers and get new silver ones by spring.
I was actually curious if that's as weird as it sounds... Any others 3 month molts out there with anyone else's birds? I swear he loses like 10 feathers a week.
Update: actually you could be right... Although his feathers do come in much MUCH lighter and yellow over the year, they do look to be slightly different in color even when new. I'll attach a better picture of Dad when he had fresh feathers.
