My first shipment last week- 5 lived. This morning the mailman called and said I had a box of dead chicks. ALL of them. I will NEVER buy from McMurray again as this was VERY traumatizing to my kids (and me).

I got my very first order of chicks from McMurray this weekend too and I did not lose a single one. I knew that it was a long weekend so I made arrangements to pick them up at the distribution center in my state. I called McMurray ahead of time and asked them which distribution center my chicks would arrive to. Then I called the distribution center myself and told them I wanted to get them there instead of wait to be shipped to my local post office. With USPS, you need to be persistent and make sure you know where they are going to be and when. I probably called the distribution center 5 times asking about my chicks. They probably thought I was annoying but I don't care, all of my chicks lived because of my persistencey. It's not the hatchery's fault that the chicks are taking so long to get to people's homes. It's the post office's. McMurray is having issues with shipments to some southern and eastern states because USPS is slacking and not rushing the orders. People need to start making more phone calls and doing more research on when and where their chicks are going to be so we can start preventing these deaths from happening because right now it seems that USPS could care less about our darling little feather babies. Happy chick raising everyone!![]()

My 12 year old son asked me on the way to the post office where we would bury the ones that didn't make it. Sounds gross, but at least he was prepared. So far, they are all still alive. I have one that appears to be having seizures now though. She is smaller than the others, but stil hanging in there for now.I am so sorry for your losses! It can be traumatic...
I have never had that happen, thankfully, but I did talk with my kids before ordering chicks the first time and explained to them that it COULD happen.
