if you're talking about a 5 gal size it works, that's what we did when doing the adopt a granny program.

~ The preschool would seed tomato and other veggies, transplant them into 5 gal buckets (donated from several bakeries), and then give them to the ladies who would come from the retirement hime across the street to read stories on fridays. It would help the grannies with fresh, healthy veggies, and the kids, many who don't have local grandparents, would have a granny to read them stories or help them make crafts.

Today I have seen my first sprouts of life from my first seedlings.

Tomatoes (about 6 different kinds)
Thai Chilies
Bell Peppers
Basil
Leeks
Chard (green house)
Lettuce (green house)
Radish (green house)

Starting more pots this afternoon while I watch it rain out my window.

I got my seed from Baker Creek , the website was extremely informative. And the order shipped out real quick. The seeds seem to be good quality too. Sprouting real quick and about 100% ofthem sprouted.

Does any one know what size cups I should transfer the seedlings into. I have them in seed starter size green houses that I got at Home Depot. I want them to be in the cup till I transfer them out side. How long can they stay in the cups?

Well, how long you got?

I use the jiffy peat pellets, and then straight out to the garden, you're not too far away, so as long as your garden's not mudded under, you should be fine, if you must interm transplant, i'd go for the 6-10 oz range.

I was just going to ask you if you are getting the rains like us. My garden keeps getting flooded so I have to do something soon. I am afraid to plant anything out side yet till the rain is not such a problem.

How long can they stay in the 6-10 oz cups?

Till 8-12 inches tall, yep, it's somewhat soggy here, but it'll work out, on those tomatoes, plant them deep if they get leggy, it'll work out fine.
