seeking good advice on "fancy" birds

I have googled fancy birds but I would like some hands on experience advice. My kids have recently joined 4H and I was told they would need fancy birds. I have no idea what breeds this includes. And what kind would be the easiest for children? THANKS

A fancy bird is one that is bred for their appearance, not for their production. Most large breeds are production, for meat or eggs, and most bantams are fancy. Look for breeds that are known for their unusual colors or feathering, and ask around to see what others have.
