I am finding this fascinating but if you don’t want to, I understand. I have always had a mixed breed where the most important characteristic was being alive.

But, my DH created me a solid pen after years of makeshift and I am finally getting so chickens that stay around.

I have tried many of the aspects of this hobby, layers, meat birds, roosters, hatching chicks..,now, I am wondering if I would like a pure bred breed. And working on a SOP so I am glad to look at yours.

I am right there with you, as in know little, hoping more experienced will chime in.

So the SOP says something of a 30 degree tail. I wonder how they measure that?

This is on Buckeyes - but it does explain with examples things to look for. While in a way it does not pertain to your birds, it does let you see what they mean when they talk about angles.

@Mrs. K The SOP calls for bright red for combs, waddles, head for both male and female Chanteclers.

The Buckeye article you link above was very useful I thought. If I compare it to the very few words included in the Chantecler SOP above if is much easier to follow & understand. Excellent, thank you.

With regard to the 30 degree measurement: the Chantecler SOP uses "30 degree above horizontal" while the Buckeye Understanding the SOP uses "roughly 40 degrees above the horizon". I am guessing but interpret that to mean relative to a horizontal plane.

You and I seem to be having fun, but I think it is the blind leading the blind. I do hope someone who knows will jump in. Maybe we need a more generic post about SOP's for a couple of breeds?

It is obvious that you have much more knowledge than I even if it was acquired without reference to the SOP.

However, I agree that input from others, more familiar with the SOP, would be useful.
