Self-Blue Cochin Bantams

Is that the primary issue with feather problems associated with self-blues? Is it something that you can select away from, or is it more a multi-gene problem where it is harder to eliminate? I had some self-blue bantam Ams last summer and they had very nice feathering fortunately.

I'm not sure. The cockerel's feathers are a lot better but .......

Im raising my F1s now, LF. They are a cpl weeks old nice feathers on the feet and look like 90% cochins so far. im excited to see how they come out as adults. so far so good.

This is a great tread.

So I need advise. I have one extra Lavender Rooster. I don't have any extra lavender hens. What would be best?

Cuckoo hens (black and white)
white hens
black hens
blue frizzle hens
mottled hens
blue cuckoo hen

The back half of this chicken is self-blue or lavender as it is called. The front half is white,
Most Roosters have two types of feathers that you can see. The top coat that is glossy, shiny long thin feathers that start at the head drapes around the neck and ends just before the tail.
Then the under coat that is soft round feathers with a mat finish.
So in this Chicken the undercoat is Self-Blue and the top coat white.
At auction on my farm he would sell for about R300(that is South African Rand) for the colour.
His breed seems mixed or what I call wild Pekin, meaning no-one watched the breeding and he is an out-of-shape Pekin.
Pekins should be a ball( tail ) on a ball(body) on a party of feathers (legs). The feathers should cover the legs so that you can't see the legs and extend far beyond the toes.
Lastly they should have yellow legs and feet ( that is for show quality)
All that said this really is amazing colouring. I have over 300 Pekins including self-blue ,blue, lavender splash blue and I've never seen this.
I would buy him some Frizzel self-blue show quality pekin hens, then you fix the form problem and get some frizzels that would fetch a high price.
Then I would keep everything with his colours.
