Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Congratulations Ahappychick on your wonderful hatch!!!! I would love to have some PI and lavender babies but my brood is young yet. I have a Lav. roo and pullets in buff, grey split lav., pure black, and blue partridge. All bases are covered, but who knows what I'll get...next year. Sigh! I can't wait to see pictures when they hatch and as they grow!

yes thats him do not use for PI breed him to full lavs first and then use that next generation for the PI project at least thats what I would do and am doing now with sucess as I have several of his offspring (those 4 grey ones) that are making full lav with a full lav roo, and I believe 1 of the 2 full lav roos in that pen is from him before he was with the buffsplits.

Right now I have him in with two black hens. Don't have a lavender hen yet.

I don't know much about the Porcelains. How do you even get them? What would you get breeding a lavender with a buff for the first generation?

My buff showgirl hen is from AHappychick and I breed her to a Lavender Rooster. This is the offspring I produce. I have 6 offspring from her and not one looks the same. But, all have very pretty coloring. My favorite is the hen in the 2nd and 3rd photo.

was the buff a lav split? I have gotten a buch similar to those as well I wonder what will be produced if bred back to lav?

as for making PI it is buff with a full lav, should yeild some buff colored babies that have lav gene then those splits bred back to lav should produce PI but it often does not work out quiet that easy.

breeding him for now with blacks is a good idea as he obviously has the lav gene I am not sure what it is in his genetics that would not make PI though. He will give you nice birds though

we will have to get you a nice lav girl

He does seem happy with the girls !!!
Oh and I did put a buff hen in with them yesterday since I don't have a buff roo and I really don't want to or should I say don't have the room for another color. She is very nice type but does have some dark almost barred wing feathers and a bit of smutt (is that what they call it ) on her tail. But otherwise very nice crest, skull and nice toes and feathered feet. Just thought I would make his day. Now he has three ladies and they are all doing well. My blacks are very good layers however.
Any ideas on how to jump start them ????? I"m getting real anxious to get some split babies !!

I had him quaranteened (sp) in my bedroom (of all places) so I had my own private alarm clock !!!! Not sure what I'm going to name him yet. Sometimes I call him Sunny so ??????

I do like picture #3 as well.

So are those throwing the partridge gene then ? but are lavender splits. Bred back to lavender would get you 100% lavender ?

Inquiring minds want to know !!

Thanks

No, my buff girl isn't carrying a lav gene, but I will breed her offspring back to lav and should get some Isabel/Porcelain offspring. Everyone else, says the girl in pic #2 and #3 is a blue partridge. So, I'm content with that color
