Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

I agree. Your black/lav split may actually be a very dark blue. I had a lav/black spit roo that was apparently a dark blue also. His chicks by a self blue were either self blue or just like yours, so I figured he was actually a very dark blue. Otherwise, the chicks "split to black" should have been black.

Hello to all on this thread. I am hoping that someone knowledgable may be able to help me regarding the color or my Silkie chicks.

Would the first be considered a grey? The second two lavender or a light blue?
Thank you to all who comment.

I tested my own dark blue pullets to see if they were split to lavender by mating them to their full brother who is Self Blue aka Lavender. The results hatched yesterday. The chicks are 10% Blue 30% Splits, 60% Lavender. They (the pullets) are indeed Dark Blue split to Lavender.

Test mated for Blue, Splits, and Self Blue aka Lavender. The pale babies in the middle are Self Blue aka Lavender. Blue chicks are split to Lavender. Knowing the parents of your chicks helps in the guess work. Test mating and hatching proves what you have.

Here are picks at about 3 weeks

The above pic shows the two chicks at 2 days. They are on the left, on either side of the white/yellow chick. They started out with the chipmunk down pattern usually seen with partridge adults. Don't know if that helps determine anything.

Without knowing the parentage of the chicks guessing on day old chick down alone, I would say first chick is blue and second chick is blue partridge.
If the blue chick gets gold hackle coming in another month, then I would think blue partridge for it too.

These are the most recent pics of the chicks from this hatch, they are close to 3 months now.

Opinions based on current feather colors?
Is the last pic a grey?
Thank you for your help!

A true grey silkie has the silver partridge genes. Partridge type chicks born with the so called chipmunk patterning can look Silver Partridge or grey. It depends who the parents are. You will know more as they mature. Grey silkies should not have leakage of any other color. (red, gold, or brown). So now it looks like a grey but it could really be a silver partridge or blue partridge. You will know when it is mature. Look at it's wings. Are they solid color grey or are they laced, barred, or otherwise marked?

Aha! I will go down to the coop and check wings! I'll try to get decent pics but it's really overcast. Thanks so much for the guidance! Back soon with a report!:D
