Self-Sufficient Homemade Recipes

Any natural "cures" for stomach flu? DD (14) is currently feeling ill and looks at me when I say there is nothing to take for stomach upset. She tried to take some tylenol and it all came back up minutes later, I would have warned her if she had asked, but she is almost 15 so she thought it would help.

I know that later a plain baked potato will help, but right now she is sipping water but afraid it will come back up....

I don't know if this will help but when I was pregnant and having morning sickness the doctor told me to eat plain saltine crackers with decaf coke and it worked.

Do the pine needles need to be fresh, or collected from the ground? Why just white pine needles?

Yes they need to be fresh, don't bother taking them all apart or anything, use the little bit of branch that comes with them when you cut them off the tree and stuff it all into a jar:>) It probably doesn't have to be white pine, you can definitely try it with other types of needles. I think I tried balsam once and loved the smell

For nausea and to fight colds:
fresh lemon juice
freshly pressed ginger
honey
hot water

Mix all to your taste preferences and then add boiling water. It's so comforting and has great healing properties!

I work in the medical field, and for stomach illnesses the docs recommend something called the BRATT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, tea, toast, all things that are pretty easy on the stomach. I've heard yogurt can be good for building back up that good gut flora, especially if a person has been on antibiotics.

Potassium is also found in potatoes! Actually, I think even more than in bananas

And... a homemade bug spray recipe, but it is stinky!

2 cups packed catnip
1 cup apple cider vinegar

Puree. Let set in closed container for 2 weeks. Strain (most of the green stays in) into spray bottle. May add essential oils for a bit better smell (I used eucalyptus). Spray liberally!

I boil ginger root, mix with a little honey, and add to hot water. Sip like tea. also i woud freeze the extra ginger syrup in icecube trays and add to hot water later. did this while I was pregnant, and when taking antibiotics that upset my stomach.

Thanks for the tips! I will give it a try, she is feeling better, but this afternoon she was miserable. The biggest problem is that my kids are typically so healthy that when they do get sick, they want me to fix it right away!

I finally finished my storebought laundry soap, so, instead of buying more, I bought the ingredients for making my own. borax and washing soda for a big box was $4.79 each and the bars of laundry soap-79 cents each. I'm thinking I will save alot of money this way.
