If you are in need of meat for the freezer keep them, if not sell 'em for the 85.00. Who is to say what really happens to roo's that are given away either. 10 yrs ago I gave mine to a guy who was feeding his 'gator.
I would LOVE for someone to offer me that kind of money for roosters. Where I live, I only get a few dollars or FREE because they are hard to get rid of...
Take the money, that is a very good deal. Unless the breed of your roosters are OEG or other game chickens, I don't think he will use them for cock fighting.
I talked to the guy and asked him what was he going to do with the roosters and he said that he was going to process them and put them in the freezer (meat for his family.) That is what I was going to do with them as well.
I'd love to get $85 for 12, too. I suspect the guy will use them to train hunting dogs or feed large animals, if he hasn't asked any questions about breed or quality. (Cock fighters "usually" have special lines of gamecocks, but of course this could be an amateur.)
Is a tasty, home-raised chicken dinner worth $7.08 to me? Heck, yes - but I don't have that much freezer camp space, and 12 chicken meals in a row would get old quick!
Only one suggestion: if you accept the $85 be sure to tell him that is the final price and if he arrives thinking that you will discount even more after the two of you have already agreed on a price, then he will go home without the chickens. I'm sure there is a nice way to tell him that if you put some effort into it. Don't let him agree to one price and then expect you to sell them for much less just because he is standing there in front of you.
Extra roosters around here appear to be freebies, and I am sure most of them end up sharing a coop with dumplings and gravy. That's why I only hatch what my own family needs. I'm not putting time and money into raising some stranger's free dinner.
