sent out my FIRST ever live chicks

It's really great that you gave them some rations for the trip. I got five 5 week old pullets from New York - I'm in Ohio and it took 2 days by express mail. I was ready to chew my own arm off! They were OK, but I felt badly that they went 2 days with nothing. I drove to the PO in my jammies, armed with a digital camera and a banana for them!

awhhh that's sad and funny all at once. Yeah I would never be able t ship out birds wihtout food/moisture i'd just feel too bad....and that gel stuff I buy is awesome

Obviously it kept my shipped out cuties alive and well (cept that one but i am positive that had nothing to do with the food or water just a sad casualty).

Interestingly, these five quite sizable chicks were packed in the exact same box you shipped in, but it probably helped, as it was chilly out. It's only been 10 days since I got them. They're pictured on my BYC page (taken yesterday). They're big girls! They don't look very chick- like. More like mini hens. So glad the little quail babes made it (except the one).

What's that gel called?

But two days like that may have sucked some lol!!!

As for the gel it's actually for crickets and other insect/reptile animals to get moisture (rather than liquid) you can buy it at like petco and specialty stores esp ones that sell repitles. I can't find the bottle right this second but it's a hydrating/calcium suppliment the gel looks like amber liquid but when you open it up and pour some out it comes out in gelly chunks

Because you make money.

LOL i wish!! Not really to be honest, Shipping was the expensive part, and I used the money I made to buy the gel (was about $10) and a bag o' apples and used most of the gel just on training them for 3 days before I shipped them out then teh rest I poured into their "moisture cup" with their sliced up apples...then you gotta consider raising the quails for almost 3 weeks....I probably made about $25+? I dunno but money I DO make from it just goes back into the birdies anyhow. The fun part is honestly giving people access to my birds it's fun!
