Ah, well all there is where I am is humid heat. They are so cute though. Maybe once I move out, graduate college, and figure out where I am going to live and start a career at, I'll get some silkies.

Anyone know anything about Kentucky? I want to be an equine and large animal vet, so I'm thinking of Kentucky. If being an equine vet doesn't work out, (depending on if I get into the college I want to go to) I am planning on being an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. Doesn't really matter where I live if I am an ag teacher, or at least not right now... But I want to know a lot about Kentucky, in case I do end up moving there.
@RebeccaBoyd lives there - I know she gets snow. But I don’t think it last long, but not sure on cold weather.

She has silkies - so adorably cute ones.

Snow Day

We had an interesting day today.

It started with snow....

We had a significant amount fall this morning. Everyone was staying in the complex. I needed to give Niamh her dose of Baytril this morning. Niamh and Tilly were under the main coop staying away from the big ladies. So I took some scratch grain out, threw it into the run, where the big ladies were, and moved to the drop door. I sprinkled some scratch and Niamh came out. I scooped her up and got ready to head in with her when Tilly came out from under the coop.

Aster has come over to see what was up and Tilly fled out into the snow to get away. I didn't want to leave Tilly alone in the snow so I scooped her up and brought her into the house as well.

They ate well and then started exploring. First discovery, the Christmas tree!

They explored a little and then they settled in and watched the Great British Baking Show with Mrs BY Bob.

One would sit down and the other would stand and I think, keep watch.

At some point, Mrs BY Bob lost track of them and Tilly made her way downstairs to where I am remodeling the family room. Chickens are real explorers if given the chance.

Tilly was pretty calm all day. They were in until 3:30 when I took them back out to the coop. Not once did Niamh ask to go back out. I think they would have stayed inside all day.
Mrs BY Bob really enjoyed their company although she was not crazy about all the poo cleanup. On the plus side, they both have nice, solid, normal poos. Niamh was acting normal all day although her tail is still not all the way up the way it should be. Tilly is now bigger than Niamh. Tilly is 1.28 kg (2.82 lbs), Niamh 1.17 kg (2.58 lbs).

Living room needs a remodel. Empress Josephine says she's happy to see you're letting them inside, but that she recommends tile as poop can be removed easier.

That is very true.

Thank you so much! I'll definitely keep this in mind and talk to my friend about it tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure that there are students in my ag teachers' class that have building experience. If I need to, I'll see if they can help my friend and I. We have a little friend group that'll probably help us though, and they are geniuses so I have faith in them.
Sounds great! & They might expect a pizza party when done! 😉

Deep breathes - trust me anger solves nothing and makes one feel like an idiot afterwards. Take the high road, and remember you won’t be in school forever, you just need to get through it and then move to the next step in your life.

How are your other chooks?

Oh and FYI - taxes are needed for all the school talk 😉♥️

Laverne is just finishing up moulting

Hahaha she looks so funny with her feathers half grown in 🥰
I wonder how Laverne likes being bald like she balded Mr P?! 🙃

I'm glad everyone is doing well!
Ah, gotta love frisky horses. Insane creatures, aren't they?

Oh my gosh, he is so cute! I love his coloring. One of the chicks that I was looking at when my friend and I bought them was a silkie. The only thing that stopped me is that they didn't have any for the day we chose for them to hatch. I want one so badly.
Thank goodness he didn't get crushed. That would've been awful.
We've had Silkies for years. They are a bigger bantam & have the largest egg size of all bantam breeds & they will lay at any unpredictable season of the year & they are very annoying broodies & will brood themselves sick if not monitored daily to eat/drink/exercise.

Other than that, they are not just fluff eye-candy but just as much chicken as others are & remarkably quick & smart. Ours have trained us well😆

If you do get Silkies, I strongly suggest getting more than just one cuz they tend to form their own tribe, get at least 3-4 & don't mix them w/ standard size laying breeds. Polish, Silkies, most crested or feather-footed bantams, are targeted a lot by bigger breeds ~ especially in confined pens cuz chickens get bored in small spaces & gentler breeds get picked on as you already know.

Our little backyard flock is dwindling & what we have left now are only these 4 Silkies ~ so peaceful:

Clyde the Brave

A few know that poor wee Clyde has been unwell for a bit. He is very wheezy and coughing - and not at all as active as usual. The Tylosin antibiotics have not cleared this up, so last night I started him on Amoxicillin.

Tonight he seems to be quite a bit improved which has me wondering if he has some sort of secondary infection to his initial one. At any rate I will keep him on the amoxicillin for a week.

I also took a tracheal swab from him and from Holly who has been coughing and sneezing.

These I will send off to be tested for MG, once I get results back I will move forward from there.
I sure an hoping that you have gotten on top of things and he improves quickly. :hugs :hugs :hugs
