September 2015 Hatch-A-long!!

Help! I'm really anxious. My temp is 101.5 and humidity 65%. Day 17 and a few eggs rocking. Still air. Should I drop the temp? I've been combing through the chick hatching 101 and just saw this. Do you all do that? What temp what day? Thank you all so much. I know now is when I need all the help I can get.

We are on our second attempt at shipped Serama eggs. We had one almost make it out of the first, but they had a rough trip. I hear Seramas are a difficult breed to hatch alone because of their small size, delicate eggs and lethal gene and shipping adds it's own schlew complications. But we're not giving up yet! We have 6 out of 18 alive and due for lockdown on Monday. We are so new at hatching, we are still learning the "art". I'll let you know how it goes!

Seramas have lethal genes?

My incubator seems slightly off calibration, but its at 102 F right now. I had it down to 101 F as the large chicks seemed to be over heating the incubator, but then they stopped moving or attempting to hatch. As soon as I put the temperature back up they started hatching. This is just my personal experience. If you feel the eggs and they feel too hot, drop the temperature.

I can't believe I am doing this. I have never incubated eggs in the fall before, especially in our unpredictable weather, but I couldn't help myself. I set seven eggs in my Brinsea today: 3 Isbar, 3 Swedish Flower Hens and one surprise and hopefully an olive egger - a Black Copper Maran hen/Isbar rooster. So, here we are and I am excited and will keep fingers crossed for an Indian summer!

Ok. It's night time and the house cools a bit at night. I don't want to drop temp and then they are too cool all night. Maybe tmrw morning after I see what temperature is. Thanks

I'm like Gita, I go by the feel of my eggs a lot. I don't have one of those fancy thermometers that you can place a bet on. I first get them to where they feel just right. Then I look at the thermometer and keep it where it says. I had a harder time keeping the humidity right at first, then I learned for lock down, no condensation on those windows. And, pretty much, just fill the wells. I won't let the humidity reading go over 62% on mine. My bator does not cool down at night, even with the air on in the day, and a fan on in that room at night. I have it set just where I want it, so I don't change anything from the time it is set where I like it. I know how far to leave the door open for the air to get into that room, and I know that the fan on is good. You get so you know what works for you.
One more thing..if your eggs feel like they have a high fever...lower the temp.

Ok thank you. They feel sometimes cool and sometimes really hot. I think the cool ones are not alive. I think the hot ones are alive and wiggling off a lot heat. I played them YouTube videos and I swear they got more active and warmer. Everyone that's cool has not survived. They are wiggling and shaking the probes off.
