September 2015 Hatch-A-long!!

That I do. I have chickenitis really bad. But I use the excuse of being able to sell off the extra babies that I don't want to keep.

I really don't expect all to hatch though, the last hatches I've had only had about an 65 to 74% hatch rate. The fertility gas been running around 93 to 94 %, but some reason or other they seem to either quit early or die right before hatching.

Anyway wish me well in this one.

Best of luck! Especially if you can sell them. I say that, and then keep them all! haha

Hey you know i can't stay away lol.
My big bator had a high temp flux (you know that thing makes me nuts). Of 109 degrees in the first 24 hours hoping the best that I didn't lose any. But it's really hard to see in the dark eggs during candling.
I have 3 eggs in the brinsea that should hatch by this weekend. Fingers crossed.

You and your dark eggs! Ok, I've got my fingers crossed that you have some hatchers this weekend!!

You don't have to add me if its a pain! I had 2 broodys setting on 12 each as of 7-23. (Mixed-bantam,barred and austrolorp) They hatched 8-12. Now I've got one broody setting on 8 bantam eggs. Start date 8-24. Due 9-13. But as I said..it's really no biggie. I'm just enjoying listening to everyone else's journeys!

Scovy momma: thanks babes!

I wanna join.
I'm setting tomorrow 8/27/3015.
I've got 197 eggs collected and will put three more that I get from tomorrow. To make it an even 200.
They are: all Naked Necks maybe pure and some maybe be crossbred ( all will not hatch out named necked though).
They will be due to hatch in September 17th, they are going to be a birthday present to myself, its in the 20th so they'll be two to three days early.

I've sold and shipped a few.
I sell a few around this area but don't have a lot of requests for NN hatching eggs.

You in need of some?

@Gloryjasmine
Absolutely I'm familiar with it. I'm very steadfast in my faith. I know it probably has nothing to do us or the candling but it helps to hear someone else say so too. Thanks Hun

Oh that's wonderful. Me too...it can still be so hard sometimes. Yes I hear ya. I was overwhelmed with grief when I sat on my Hope. And it was like even though I totally knew it was an accident,I still needed to hear someone else tell me so. Encouragement is a powerful thing. (So is discouragement) that's why it's important we uplift one another. Especially when we're hurting! You're on my heart

And you're welcome.

@Scovy Momma

First take a deep breath. If the eggs have been upright then you know the air cells are in the right spot. Just try not to handle them more then necessary and don't tip them with candling if you can help it. Like I said idk for sure how accurate it is but I think I read somewhere on BYC that around days 7-10 the veins form a barrier and seal the air cells in place.

Secondly don't get discouraged I didn't know until last week that bantams needed lower humidity. It's just a happy accident that for my last two eggs(oegb) I just happened to try the perfect humidity.

Thirdly, even if your first two hatches go less than perfectly remember that it's a learning process and we're never done learning. That's why shipped eggs can't be guaranteed there are so many variables. Hundreds. There's no way to know what those eggs went through in shipping.

And I think I speak for others as well as myself, not everyone, but I would bet a lot. We all have learned by trial and error and I know I feel a measure of guilt but all we can do is learn and try harder to do better next time. And if things do go poorly I would suggest reading some more and maybe trying with some local eggs. You could probably find some in a California thread.

Good luck everyone on their hatches I'm so grateful to have found BYC and to have met such a great bunch of people.

All I can say to that is .....AMEN SISTA!!!!! I agree 100%! Such good advice and really neat on how you uplifted and encouraged her! Not only do I think you speak for a lot of people here,also I think you've just spoken to a lot of people here!!!! Truly heartwarming!

I brag to my husband about my awesome lil group here. I just love you guys!

So much thanks @chickendreams24 & everyone else for your help.

I went into this thinking I'm only spending $25 on the incubator, so don't expect too much just try to have fun to, "Oh noes! I'm boiling these things alive!"

I haven't touched them much at this point other than tipping them & the one candle pics Monday so I'm thinking I'll just stick to tilting the machine it's self like I've been doing & not bother opening to tilt them individually also. I will wait until they get really veiny to take more pictures & handle them again.

At least I wasn't too far off thinking something along those lines.

I would love some. Thinking you will still have NN's come spring? I think it would be really fun to have some of yours for the Easter Hatch A Long! Especially if you have some laying blue/green eggs now. :)
