Here is my day 3 of candling the Lavendar Ameraucana eggs. Let me know if you see any sure quitters or none developing. This is my first time and I have no idea what I am looking at. I have looked at hundreds of Candeling pics and still can't figure it out. Lol.

That was my problem exactly too! (First timer here as well) I looked at tons of candling pics and quitter pics and my eggs I was so unsure about because they looked in between. Idk about the first one kinda hard for me to tell but the other three from when I candles mine look good. I'd say they look pretty good rn but check again on day 5 (what I did today! I saw babies moving around and the eye I believe!) if you wanna check early, then day 8 if you don't care as much. I'm not throwing any out unless I'm 100% sure until day 12!
Also lavender Ameracuana sound sooo lovely

I badly want purebred Ameracaunas but there aren't many true or SQ breeders around here! Had to give up my EE rooster I thought was a purebred for awhile, lovely muffs and beard, one of my favorite traits!

if you want you can wet the membrane. If you see blood vessles in the membrane wait!! if you cant see blood vessles you can chip away at the shezll and see if that helps.

I have a question on a similar issue as TurkenMama.
Last night there were 2 eggs left in my hen's nest after 7 had hatched "on time".. I decided to let them stay in the nest along with the newly hatched chicks just in case they were late pippers. No pips were on either shell.

This morning as soon as there's a touch more light at sunrise I plan to go and check the nest, feed, water, etc.
I'd like advice on the eggs (provided they're still eggs, hoping they've become chicks over night, lol)
Is it best to leave them alone? Is it best to begin a pip from the outside? Open them gently entirely around the circumference which is where the rest of my chicks opened their own eggs?
I don't want to give up on them just yet. Their due hatch-time was wednesday 4 p.m. thru thursday 5 pm. as eggs were added to the nest over that 24 hour period. If it helps to elaborate, one of the late eggs was laid by mama hen (Mima, silkie) and that one has hatched. The other 2 I don't know if they started out wed or thurs.
I will return to read advice before doing anything.

This is my first time trying to hatch the la bresse. I didn't know about the lack of bloom until after I started having issues. They also seem to have pretty thin shells. I though it was just poor nutrition in the hens, but now I find out that shell issues are something the breed is prone to. calcium suppliments are an absolute must with the hens of this breed. I was already doing a dry hatch for poor air cell quality on my shipped eggs, but even so the air cells do seem small for day 17. 

This breed also has higher protein requirements than many other breeds and will get very nasty to other birds if these needs are not met. ( that I knew before I started ) My husband wants to try raising this bird really bad, but I didn't want to shell out 15-30$ per chick. If I cant get these to hatch I might bite the bullet for his birthday

At least you have the option of buying chicks, there is no one remotely near me to buy chicks from, so it's hatching shipped eggs or nothing lol.
How far along are your la bresse eggs? Let me know how the hatch goes.
My first lot are on day 8 and my second on day 1.

It was active yesterday afternoon and lots of rocking but no more progress. I'm not too worried.... membrane looks white still. I might do some looking at helping this evening. I'd like to give it as much time as possible, and since it has air, it's not an emergency.

I've had good hatch rates with these weird saddle sacs, do not worry too much! Hatching in the carton is a great idea. I've always just set mine like the others, (on their side) but haven't had any issues. Good luck!

So here are two of the funky air cell eggs. I'm hatching in a cut out egg carton to help with position. Is there anything more I can do to try and get a successful inner pip?

 From the August Hatch-along thread. The last egg is wrapping up hatching (just pipped) on day 22. My incubator will barely have time to dry after I clean it out… I have more eggs on the way next week Wednesday or so!!

FWIW, I am super impressed by my incubator-- Incuview from Incubator Warehouse. Aside from a 3 day empty test run, I used NO additional thermometer OR hygrometer. Everything was spot on. If this last egg hatches, I will have a 91% hatch rate for the eggs that were not clears. Pretty pumped about that. I figured I paid good money for that incubator, and if I do everything correctly, those gauges had better do their jobs!

So glad you posted this. I have been looking at that one for my first incubator, like the look but its not as well known a brand so i´m glad to hear you liked it. Any other comments about it?

So you guys can watch the livestream and keep me updated if you want as my computer at school has ustream blocked but not byc! I'm on day 18 today

I lucked out and found someone about 1/2 an hour away who has them. He sold me hatching eggs for 2$ each and was selling chicks starting at 15$+ depending on age. If they don't produce a bloom I can see why there is such a big difference, I just thought my daughter had charmed him . He never told me about any issues with hatching la bresse, and he seemed to be getting a decent number of chicks himself (dont know how many eggs he set though). I asked him how incubated his eggs, he says he spray sanitizes the eggs but doesn't wash them. He does dry incubation until lockdown, then ups the humidity. He only candles once before lock down, unless he sees weeping or smells something off. I didn't think think spray sanitation of the eggs was an important step, now I'm wishing I had done it.

I just found a la bresse breeding trio 2hrs from me for 125$ might get that for the hubby and skip having them as chicks :/

marlene look at local farm postings, and poultry swaps, often times you can find rare breeds you want...... it can be harder to verify what lines they have or that their birds are not mixed, but it might be a good place to start looking if you cant get the shipped eggs to hatch.
