***SEPTEMBER HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

Leave him in!! He can stay in the incubator for 48 hours if need be. I have to admit I sneak some out when there's a lot in there, but only once each day and that's pretty much frowned upon.

They live off the yolk for a few days.

Great! Thank you for your quick reply, this is my first hatching and I have no idea what I am doing. I have a couple of other bantam eggs but most are standard. I have two other pips so we will see........Thanks again for the advice.

Congrats to everyone who has chicks hatching now!

I candled my MGBs yesterday and saw veins in all of them, so I'm excited. I also added several Button Quail eggs to the incubator. They hatch in 17 days, so they will be due the same day as the chicks. I've never had quail before.

Day 13.5 update - all 20 of my eggs that are still in the bator have moving chicks! So out of 24 eggs, 2 were clears/broken and 2 blood rings and the rest are still viable so far. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I have been playing around with candling since day 3. It is now day 7. 4 of my 5 Ameraucana eggs are for sure growing. One may be a blood ring but I can't be certain just yet. Of my 6 FBCMs I can only see through one shell. It is fertile and growing as well. I have tried seeing through those dark/spotted shells with everything in the house including a 100 watt bulb. I think it is time to go purchase a LED flashlight and see if it will work for me.

So far very happy with my fist attempt at hatching eggs.
