gryeyes: What all do you have in the incubator?

The best thing about having chickens and ducks is that for every one that dies, 7 others take it's place @.@

So sorry about your runner, Missred! Hope you catch what did it.

I wasn't planning to candle until day 7, but I got an extra bright flashlight today and had to test it on my dark brown eggs. Good news! out of 24 eggs, 22 for sure have development at day 4. 2 I'm not sure about-could go either way. Will do the 'official' peek at day 7, but at least I am starting out well.

I have posted this before. You can use an old slide projector to candle dark eggs. The light is really strong! It worked really well on my Marans eggs.

featherz: Can I borrow that flash light for a second Honey?

My flash light I have stinks!

Hahaha. I thought I had to try something! I have dark brown eggs mixed in this batch and now I can see through them! even when it's not pitch dark. It's not as good as a real candler, but it's better than nothing.

It's a Coleman Max LED, 115 lumens. I can see through the marans now!

I would like to join! I have 12 eggs (BBS Silkie and 2 silkie mix) set to hatch Sept 15, and I'll be setting 7 Belgian Mille Fleur D'uccle eggs that are in the mail - probably tomorrow.

This is my first incubating experience and it is so exciting! I candled yesterday and actually saw a few veins/embryos! I am using a homemade incubator that DH put together for me - he is an electronics engineer so hopefully it will work pretty good

(He did "cheat" and buy a pre-fab egg turner)

I kind of have some sad news ... not that sad ... if any baby buttons hatch out then I will have to sell some of them to a pet shop!

Isn't that just horrible?

7 Bantam Cochin eggs in one, 7 Lavender Orpington eggs in the other. And I'll be loading a third one *ahem* with 6, maybe 7 Black Jersey Giant eggs later this week. (They were shipped today.) If I only get six of them, I'll put one of my own chickens' eggs in to make the 7.

Love those Brinsea Mini Advance incubators!
