September Hatch-a-long!

Pics
Oh no! Have you candled any of the ones under your broody? Hopefully all the fertile ones are just under them! :fl
I ended up with the same problem you had, one of the breeders was super sweet and sent LOTS of extras. I have to run two incubators now anyway, so I put in some of my barnyard mix eggs! I only set eggs from the Amberlinks (white with brown patches), we only have the one mixed breed bantam rooster so no questions there. If any hatch the pullets going in the pen with the bantam Ameraucanas to make some homemade bantam EE's.
I briefly candled my incubator eggs (not in perfect conditions as there was some light) yesterday and not looking good - seems 5/7 are not fertile :rant:rantThe worst bit being they are all the cream legbars :hit:hitI have masses of them under the broodies as well so I'm really hoping that those ones are OK, or at least some of them. You may remember the breeder I go them from was a bit worried about them when he sold them to me as he'd lost one of his roos so gave me 12 eggs on top of the 12 I bought to be sure I got some but if the rest are the same I'm going to be gutted :hit:hit:hitI'm going to have another look tonight when it is dark before I chuck them.

I've always heard not to put an egg with yolk on it into an incubator.

I think that one of my NN hens is thinking about going broody now, because she's been hanging out in the nesting box more than normal the past 3 day's. I'm still taking the eggs. I don't trust a broody hen because I have heard that many times they will get off the nest before it's time or attack the new hatched one's. That's why I bought 2 incubators. I'll hatch them myself! Each of my incubators can hold up to 42 eggs at a time.
My Betty just hatched 10 with 5 more she took possession of. My hens all lay in 2 boxes so she decided they were all hers. Her first hatch 1 egg she killed baby. But this time she is great.
