September Hatch-a-long!

So Moma seems to of done a good job today. Wondering how long I should leave her and lockdown with the one check? Can I let her out into the main flock and cut a small access hole just for the little one? Not sure how the other 24 size chickens will do.
Last time my broody hatched she only got one chick and I left the mama and the chick in the run with water and food while the others free ranged just until the chick gets strong enough :frow

Ok so just let them in with the rest? They have a large run for the days and locked in the coop at night. Or keep them in the lock down?

I like to keep them a part until the chicks get stronger but if you don't think the other chickens will hurt them and mama will protect then if you just keep a close eye on them. My hen was the bottom of the pecking order is also one of the reasons I kept them a part and there was only one chick. How many breeds did you hatch :)

We tied for the fitst time, both Moma and me! We put 5 eggs under a Cochin hen golden laced Wyandotte rooster. Mixed mother’s. The ONE that hatched is a polish mother. Our flock is very diversified both in bread and age. Dad is only 26 weeks! Mom (both moms)are at least 1 1/2 years old. Most are from a batch at 12 weeks. I’m worried about pecking order issues with the one chick!

Wouldn't you know! Now I have a NN hen that went broody a few days ago, so yesterday I marked 2 of the Blue CCLB hens eggs and gave them to her. No use in her just sitting in the nest for nothing, and I wasn't going to incubate any new ones this week anyway's, right? These 2 blue eggs will be NN/CCLB mixes if they hatch.

I'm picking up two dozen eggs this Saturday! The lady I'm getting them from has Ameraucana's, Maran's, Olive Eggers, Naked Necks, and some other laying breeds. I lost most of my standard sized flock about a month ago, so this is me getting back up on my chicken horse. At least I still have a flock of 20 or so of bantams left. My 'Bater just got up and running a few minutes ago and is currently holding steady! Hopefully it stays this way :fl And chicken math strikes again! Along with the two dozen eggs I'm also picking up two cochin bantam chick's and a chocolate muscovy duckling, all a few days old. She offered some muscovy eggs too! I didn't take her up on the offer, but maybe some day I'll get some from her.
I hope everyone has a whole bunch of fluffy butts soon! :jumpy

How did you lose your standard sized flock? Was it from the heat? If so, you're going to like the Naked Necks, and I hope that you will hatch out a few of those!
