September Hatch-A-Long!

OK I ordered 6 bantam Cochin show eggs. they are very small creamy, almost pink eggs. Its day 2 and I know I broke the day 7 candling rule, but two already have spider veins and heartbeats, the other 4 nothing. should I worry yet?

I didn't see you there. Now I can't go to sleep. Max is ready so she is sleeping on my foot. She won't stay in her bed as long as I am up. Silly turkey.

I candled every single day of my first batch. I couldn't help it. I'd lie awake wondering if they were ok then finally get up at 2am to candle one. I'd candle them all of course. I probably did it every other day on the second batch. I finally have gotten to where I candle about 2 times a week.

Deanna what's due to hatch next?

I have 3 Langshans and 4 Bresse, asssuming everyone made in thru tonights fiasco, due Friday. The Bresses are for my friend. I started with 12 shipped eggs and I'm down to 4. I had 4 Langshans down to 3. I have 5 Langshans left from my original hatch. I really wanted black but only one hatched and died. The breeder sent me a few more. So nice of her. I hope I get a couple. I have a few more Langshans and bresses hatching next week too.

Most of the time I don't even take the eggs out of the turner (that is where trauma occurs if it happens) I just take my super bright LED flashlight and touch it gently to the tops of each egg in the turner. The cool down is actually beneficial so i don't worry about that. Usually I just look to see movement and move on. For the most part I have been not even candling till about day 10 at least so I don't accidentally throw out a clear that wasn't really a clear. My mutt eggs I am not even candling till lockdown - so far I have not had a single clear or early death except for my sad little twin egg.

I have both Blue Marans crosses out and 2 of 3 White Leghorn crosses out

They aren't all dry yet so I can't see yet if the Lavender Ameraucana is likely the daddy. Hoping so! Last one is still pipped and chirping at last check.

A lavender Leghorn would be pretty.

Thanks.

I don't throw anything out if I have room until lockdown. If it's crowded, day 14. Unless it's stinky. I would only check 10 and 18 but I love to see them wiggle. It'spart of the excitement.

Shipped eggs have arrived and out to settle prior to placing in the bator. How long do I let them settle at room temp for? 8, 12, 24 hours?
