September Hatch-A-Long!

As the Egg Turns-

Max is hurt. Not sure what is wrong. She is limping. Hurt her right leg. I think it's a spain. Not her foot, not her knee. Maybe her hip. I gave her Metacam, 1.5 drops. If it is a sprain, does anyone know how long to heal? She had a bad day so I'm not sure which catastrophe caused it. Did you know baby turkeys sound like a squeaky toy when you sit on them?

They are really fast. She can run from the end of my bed to under my butt in a fraction of a second. She now runs the other way when I sit.

I feel so bad.

She also decided today was the day she was going to fly!

She was wrong and fell on brick from 3'.

Poor Max.

Such a bad day. When we got home, I put her in her bed, got my dinner, fed my dog, went back to my room to eat and she was gone.

I looked every where.

I finally found her here.

Eating my mac and cheese.

There was bits of pasta all over.

The metacam was taking awhile to kick in so I gave her the cure-all, PBCIC. It helped for sure.

Got it thank you so much for your support! You have no idea how much I appreciate it! Thank You!
Hey Celone, I know what you're going through. we hatched the same day. I had to cull 2 of mine. they were trying to walk on their hocks. I couldn't leave them with the other chicks cause they were pecking at them. Both were ones that took a long time hatching, 1 I had to assist. Sorry for the loss

that sweet baby! hope her little leg is better today

Mine are gonna be mutt babies from my own flock (on day 16 now). I feed them layer feed, cracked corn, they free range, and we have lots of clover round her for them. If I'm eating breakfast or lunch outside in the garden I usually share that with them, whether it's ham & cheese, pb&j or a salad. They also free range in the early evening and they get leftovers. Tonight they had lasagna and garlic bread. I candled on day 10 and 13, 5 seem to be progressing well and 2 I'm not sure about.

Tomorrow most of my chickies will be a week old. I did lose one on Saturday late evening but thus far that is the only one. I had a scare Tuesday morning when I woke around 4:30 to hear the chicks cheeping from the cold. Our power had gone out and the temps were dropping. So what did I do? I put them into a shoebox, sat it on my lap, wrapped the edges with a blanket. Then I fired up my laptop that is an excellent heater and set it on top of the box. Within about 10 minutes, the temp was up to 93* and they settled down to nap. 3 hours later as my battery was almost drained, the power was restored. May I just say I never thought I do something like that, but these babies are precious.

I couldn't resist and have another group in the incubator. We have 6 eggs from a Blue Orpinton over Splash Marans. If these babies are anything like their parents, they'll be huge! 7 Buff Orpington/RIR mixes, 2 Splash Aracuna, and 16 Blue/Black/Lavender/Splash Orpington eggs joined them. I also have 10 silkie eggs for a friend. I can't wait for this hatch to join my other babies! Due on October 12. :D
