First chance I had to check in on you!!!! I have learned to do the Vit E first..... tape/support feet/legs if needed.....and keep fingers crossed.

I'm thinking that it has to do with hens in the heat getting stressed and depleted in vitamins/minerals...Now I add it to their (hen's) feed if I'm going to incubate....sometimes Vit B is needed (in the chicks) based on other neuro symptoms....

So very glad for you....it's an easy go to remedy until you can figure out what else can/needs to be done. No matter if it's day's out...give the Vit E a shot....

Hi,
Just a few thoughts on the subject. I think often we blame USPO when the problem really is improper care of the breeding stock...............
I have learned (through many failures) to ask better questions of the person I am purchasing eggs from......
I have learned not to assume that the seller knows how many hens per Roo or that their feed program makes a significant
difference in hatchability.
I can tell you for sure that I did not know about care when I first started...............So much to learn......................

But also part of the fun .......I think my best learned lessons have been from my hens................

I just finish sending you a message too!

how are you chickydee??

I'm good.................

Very good point. I spent the better part of 2 years getting my original birds (10) healthy before breeding them. Learned way more than I knew to expect or monitor. Seem like every time I turned around...it was something new to address!

DH and I agreed that from now on...we will grow our own birds, and now are comfortable breeding our groups. However, this has been a doosy of a summer with the heat, humidity and rain, rain, rain.

We do plan to add a better "breed-standard"soon, but will take it slow and make sure they are healthy prior to purchase and before resale etc...just not worth the stress, but a learning experience just the same. Chirp

Mine are gonna be mutt babies from my own flock (on day 16 now). I feed them layer feed, cracked corn, they free range, and we have lots of clover round her for them. If I'm eating breakfast or lunch outside in the garden I usually share that with them, whether it's ham & cheese, pb&j or a salad. They also free range in the early evening and they get leftovers. Tonight they had lasagna and garlic bread. I candled on day 10 and 13, 5 seem to be progressing well and 2 I'm not sure about.
