September Hatch-A-Long!

Figured I would join in on the fun :) I set 4 chicken eggs from my polish crested and 11 duck eggs from my ducks which will be mutts. These guys will be my very first hatch!!!! I shouldn't have been allowed to buy an incubator... I'm hooked already! Lol plus im already talking about what eggs I'm going to order and looking at bigger better incubators lol

The chicken eggs are on lock down due to hatch the 1st! And the duck eggs are due to hatch the 8th!

Because the eggs were almost 2 weeks old and weren't kept in the best conditions(at least I think that's why because they were fertile)I lost 4 duck eggs but have 9 left and me being butterfingers I dropped 1 of the chicken eggs when I was candleing it so then I was down to 3. The three that are left are doing good (at least when I candled them before lock down) and they were rocking quiet a bit today.

Well after my VERY HORRIBLE first attempt with my homemade cabinet, I've gotten a new controller and added a backup heater and am wiring in the humidifiers today. Hope to set eggs on Tuesday or Wed after I can acquire enough of the breeds I want. going to start out smaller this time, Only 48 eggs.

I guess this falls in to the category of learning by your mistakes. I hope this hatch goes better for you

Only 48? that's considered smaller? My incubator doesn't even hold that many

well full capacity with turners if I only have one hatching tray would be 288 First attempt I started with 96 although about 20 were clears.

Decided to come on over from the August hatch along since I didnt do so well on my first hatch. I had borrowed an incubator from a neighbor and just discovered that there was a problem with the thermometer in it. Too bad i didnt discover this until afterward. Got 2/20. I went ahead and built a coolerbator and (hopefully) fixed the problem with the other one.
Just set 18 eggs in the ancient bator and 16 in the coolerbator today. All barred rock eggs from my hens. I will see which one works better.

Will be setting eggs the end of the upcoming week or the early part of the week after....Easter Eggers, bantam cochins and mixed banties. I also order Olandsk Dwarfs but not sure when they are coming so that might have to be a separate hatch.
In August I incubated/hatched Buff Brahmas. Hatched 12, one that had difficulty getting out of the egg died but the other 11 are super healthy and growing quickly.
Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes as well on this next time around!! :)
I am getting back into chickens and incubating after being away from it for the most part of a few years.
