Good luckOK, finally moving over here from August![]()
Lets see... I have had multiple disaster hatches with all my shipped eggs but good hatches with my personal eggs (well, my own chickens anyway, LOL!) I have been doing staggered hatches using a Farm Innovators Pro 4200 with auto turner and fan for a bator and an LG still air for a hatcher. I have had heartbreak after heartbreak and although seemingly stable temps for the most part I think it may be running low in spite of my best efforts and numerous thermometers and hygrometers. I have ordered Incu-kits to upgrade my bators to the equivalent of a HovaBator Genesis 1588, and also ordered the cords to use battery backups and 12 volt turner motor. I am GOING to get this worked out and stop killing all the rare breed babies I am working so hard to acquire.
Meanwhile in the bator I have a selection of BBS Ameraucana, Partridge Penedesenca, SBEL, Olive Eggers and a Crested Cream Legbar that are on Day 16 in my unreliable bator and almost ready to go into my unreliable hatcherAt least none of them were shipped so![]()

Also in the bator on Day 5 are more local eggs including Mille Fleur Leghorns, more Crested Cream Legbars from 2 other flocks, Appenzeller Spitzhaubens, Barthuhners, Swedish Flower Hens, Lavender/Blue Orpingtons, and Blue Isbars.
Shipping to me Monday I have a replacement order of Sweet Potato Quechua and Colloncas eggs and 6 Bielefelders.
And hopefully my local source will soon have some Blue Breda eggs for me since I lost all 18 of the shipped eggs due to malposition![]()
Good luckDecided to come on over from the August hatch along since I didnt do so well on my first hatch. I had borrowed an incubator from a neighbor and just discovered that there was a problem with the thermometer in it. Too bad i didnt discover this until afterward. Got 2/20. I went ahead and built a coolerbator and (hopefully) fixed the problem with the other one.
Just set 18 eggs in the ancient bator and 16 in the coolerbator today. All barred rock eggs from my hens. I will see which one works better.
Yes it is! I'm still in shock that I actually did it lol oh and my other two chicken eggs have pippedIsn't it such an awesome feeling when you that very first baby hatches....congrats![]()
shipped?
My babies for this week equal 6...2 from my girls a mottled Japanese Bantam, 1 black silkie, 2 lavender frizzle silkies! so precious....
you in the sept hatch?? mine are due starting sept. 11
I had so many problems too. It's so frustrating and heart breaking. Things are going much better now. I am using my store bought little giant for hatching, and my home made for incubating. My Little Giant is only stable with higher humidity. There's no fan. My homemade have fans and are harder to maintain a higher humidity. So it has all finally worked out I just wish it haddn't taken so many eggs. You'll get it. I noticed mine have been hatching better since the rain stopped. Not sure if that has mattered or not.OK, finally moving over here from August![]()

Ooops, forgot to answer on the last one. No they are local. I'm not sure how good they'll be. I bought a dozen EE and a dozen Seramas. I only have 2 maybe 3 EEs left. Many clear and some rotten. First rotten ones I've had. The Serams are from the same guy but they seem to be fine. They were dirty and seemed old. Large air cell. Some were small end up. And he sent his wife to deliver them. He didn't want me to pick them up at his place. Very odd. I'll just have to wait and see.shipped?
