September Hatch-A-Long!

That baby looks just like my EE/buff Orpington cross pullet when she hatched! Either way the baby sure is cute!

I have a solid buff EE and she is so sweet. And she still lays a mint green egg.

LOL YIKES!!! But actually they do have large fowl Silkies in the UK. But not sure how big they are.
cool lol i know the ones i have are somewhere between some of my smaller large chickens and my bantums. like twice as big as the bantums but not as big as the standards..i was really thinking of breeding up if i could find a few good larger ones.

Little impatient chicks couldn't wait for hatch day tomorrow ;) That's OK I don't mind because it was a holiday from school and my 7 year old daughter was SO excited to watch so many hatch!! So far all but 7 of 26 have hatched and 3 of those have pipped, one is chirping around but not pipped yet and the other 3 weren't moving on lockdown but wanted to give them a chance, they look like they passed around 2 weeks for some reason :( But I have so many pretty babies!

So cute!!! Looks like you hatched out a variety pack

LOL Yep! I got all but 2 eggs from a local Farm here in WV.
In the Mix are Blue Laced Red Wyandotte(2), Wheaton Ameracana(1 with one more pipped), a Silkie(1), Partridge Cochins(what most are LOL) and I believe one white cochin, and I got one white one with no feather feet so I think A delaware egg might have gotten mixed in there, but that's OK Then one from my Australorp roo/white leghorn hen.

And they'll go in the official brooder after the first 2 or 3 days, I like to keep them close for a few days then they go in a big 2 foot by 4 foot brooder box I built for in the coop :D

Ok Im on day 24 , at what point do you say there not hatching and give up on the batch ? I candled my 4 eggs and theres no movement but theres definatly fluid and a chick in there . I thought at this point though the fluid should be dried up and absorbed into the chick ?

On day 24 I start giving up :( I've done float tests on 24 or 25 to see if the egg wiggles in the water, if it does I'll dry it off and give it a few more days, if it doesn't I usually call it a loss. One thing I did this time that seemed to really increase my hatch rate, I locked down on day 15, beefed up the humidity and the incubator didn't get opened until nearly everyone was hatched, I had 4 left but they were just getting too crowded in there.
