September Hatch-A-Long!

Cute pictures, DeannaA! Love the Langshan vs. Serama. :)

Ok, so I haven't been "a-longing", but my first baby just hatched out and I had to brag. It's my first ever successful hatch! I tried before with Seramas and didn't get a single hatch. This time I picked up some local basic EE/OEs just to test the incubators. Didn't think I would be this excited and planned to sell anything that hatched out but Ahhh! This is so exciting! He's a keeper!

There's 3 more in with him. 2 have pipped (and its still only day 20). 1 of those pipped in the wrong place and haven't seen any movement there for a few hours..may intervene in the morning if there's no more progress. There are also 9 more from the same batch going in a homemade coolerbator that are 4 days behind and due on Saturday, but the temps have been all over the place and I won't be surprised if none make it, although these 9 of 15 are going strong at 17 days.

ETA- 2 down, 2 to go!

Well not sure what to do. went into the shop and my one chick that actually hatched 9 days ago has one leg all twisted backwards and can't walk.. I just took out the paper 2 days ago and they're on the 1/4" mesh. I even bought 2 silkie chicks to keep it company. Although I did start my second attempt at incubating. I just put 48 eggs into the bator. figured I won't waste a bunch more eggs till I get a decent hatch, then I'll load it up. Anyone know what I can do for the little chick other than cull, My 11 yr old daughter wants me to take it to a vet( not likely).

I have read about this many times. I have yet to see anyone fix it. But I have seen a chick go on to live and grown. I would hate to be in your position to make the choice and then explain the decision to your daughter. Good Luck

Look at all the adorables!

Congrats everyone!

My little one that pipped yesterday is doing the same as my Pip from my first hatch. It's just making a big hole at the pip spot and not zipping. :( I see it trying to wriggle but I don't know if it's stuck or just trying to get comfortable. Humidity dropped to 55 during the night which was weird but I bumped it back to 65 this morning. If (s)he can't make it out on her own by tonight I guess I'll give her a hand. This is my first homegrown baby and I don't want to lose her...

I thought it was ok to have mesh on brooder floor? I think it got its toes caught and dislocated its leg.

And morning of hatch day my hatch is DONE! I have 4 more babies in the bator this morning and the other 3 eggs in there looked like they stopped growing around week 2 :( Poor little things! But I got 24 hatched out of 27 eggs that went into lockdown and one baby passed shortly after hatching :( So 23 babies! Lets hope they all stay fluffy, healthy and happy....then I get to choose whom to keep and whom to sell :'( The hardest part, but I don't need 23 more chickens :O Didn't expect this hatch rate at all

My little lavender is still zipping. Man... I don't remember it taking this long with my previous hatch. He's almost got it though.

And she's out! Woo! Guess she knew I was worried so she decided to zip and pop on out. :D...wait a sec. She's yellow...how does one get a yellow chick from black parents? ... Hmmm...regardless she's adorable and I will post a pic when she's fluffy.

ok i have 3 days till lock down ..
my hatching bator the best i can do on temp is a range of 101 to 97....is this going to be ok??? if not im FUBARED. my 0-18 bator ranges from 100-95. and im having good growth.
